ya, add is mistaken 75% of the time. My aunt thinks my cousin has ADD because he wont read books in school. Um.. maybe he just doesn't like reading? So now they're gonna screw him up on all these meds he probly doesnt need.
I do have one friend who DEFINATELY has ADHD tho... she's seriously off the wall, all the time, and she can not sleep. She wont shut up and she laughs at pretty much everything.

I think it's over diagnosed. Sometimes parents would rather have a diagnosis of ADD or ADHD and give their child a medication than take the time and energy to deal with a kid who has issues and needs a lot of time and consistency.
I do think that quite a few people have it, kids and adults. I know medication can be helpful for those it helps. Makes life a lot better and helps the person to be more successful.
Sometimes I think it's easier to put a label on something than to spend a lot of time and energy to figure out what is really going.

Only ADHD has anything to do with hyperactivity. I had a very bad case of ADD growing up. I could learn anything because I had the concentration span of a goldfish. Turn on my favorite tv show on tv and i'd be born within 10 minutes. I was put on ritalin and things changed very quickly. Now I teach some 10 and 11 year olds and half of them have ADHD. It is noticibly different when they are on medicine or not, and I know if they're on it because they're patches that they wear on their arms. What I'm saying is yes, ADD/ADHD is real and very common.

ugh ask my mom... the whole thing is really annoying, the kids who actually do have it are getting grouped in with kids who are just energetic.
Kids are supposed to be hyper!

It is a real diagnosis, but I suspect it is over diagnosed. Even psychiatrists will admit that.
