I will try to explain it though I have never technically had a rebound relationship, per se. When a relationship ends, particularly a long term one, either or both former-members of the now- defunct couple feel a combination of things to include fear, uncertainty of how or if they can love again, doubts about their desirability and questions on how to approach another partner again. Consequently, usually the first person they're sexual with after this traumatic experience is largely therapeutic...good for them where healing is concerned, but not someone they generally wind up staying with. This is not always true, but it is a very common experience for many folks.

Basically it is the feeling that you HAVE to have a relationship because you liked the feeling of being in one for so long that you jump on the first opportunity that comes along. I have been the rebound guy even before she broke up with her boyfriend, and it actually reaffirmed her love for her boyfriend. But i have had rebound relationships, and I would say, steer clear if that is what is going to happen.

When you get out of a serious relationship and your imediately get with someone else just to get over the other person. One of my friends dated a guy for 7 months and he broke up with her because he was going to college.. She was with someone else within 2 or 3 days.. It was a rebound relationship.. She just used it to get over the serious relationship.

A rebound relationship is when someone breaks up with their boyfriend/girlfriend and goes after someone new immediately after in order to get over their ex.
