Depending on the cell type that started the cancer and whether it is a primary (started in the lung) or secondary (started somewhere else) it will be more or less aggressive.

So while many lung cancers are fast to kill and do not respond well to surgery / chemo/ radio therapy, there are those that linger.

Most result in death from a variety of reasons including a lack of air intake, to compression of other structures in the lung area and spread to other organs like the oesophagus, nevres, brain etc.

Altogether it's not very pleasant.

first of all. if they are aware of their condition and choose to do nothing about it, then it's apparent that they are content with their lives and the outcome that lies in front of them. depending on the severity of their situation, they may not have much time left on this earth and so therefore, if they choose to not do anything about it, then maybe that is what makes them happy. lung cancer is serious, and there can be many diagnostic tests and treatments that one can subject to themselves. who wants to live their final days in a hospital. not me. and perhaps, maybe not them. on the other hand, maybe they are sad. and if so......... just be there for them to comfort them. that is what is needed. no matter what.
