Now is the time to start searching for college scholarships. Scholarship deadlines happen throughout the year. I recommend applying for every scholarship you qualify for consideration no matter the amount. In addition, I recommend using a variety of approaches to locate them. I will include several different ways to locate money to attend college below.

First, complete the FAFSA form even if you believe your family makes too much money. It uses a percentage equation to determine your need along with your family size. It will qualify you for the Pell Grant (if your EFC is below 4300), work study program, need based scholarships from the college endowment fund, and student loans. This needs to be completed every year until you graduate from college. For your senior year of high school, it should be completed well before the earliest financial aid deadline of all the colleges you have applied for consideration.

Second, the local public library has a book listing college scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Third, search Google.com and Yahoo.com for any state grants or scholarships offered by your state. Most are need based, but there are some states that reward excellent grades in school.

Finally, join several free membership college scholarship search websites. Most offer a customized search based on the information you enter into a profile. There is a scholarship for almost anything out there including wearing duct tape to the prom.

Good luck!
