Are you sure the cable TV outlet was active in the new room? If not, there may be a junction box in the house/apartment that contains the cable connections. Or, the outlet was disconnected by the cable company at the connection point (called the demarcation point) where the cable comes into the house/apt.

Also, are you using a converter box? If so, make sure the TV is on channel 3. Some TVs default to channel 2 when unplugged and power back up.

it sounds like your outlet to that room is not on. Follow the cable to your basement to the demarcation point or where there is a splitter and make sure that the coax wire is hooked to it from that room. If you cant find it call your cable company and they will get it hooked up for you for a small fee ($10-$30)
