Always be kind to the diners, no matter what mood they are in. Remember waitressing is a 'service' business. The more pleasant you are, the more people will come to 'sit' in your area... and hopefully the better tips you will get.

Smile... no matter what... Don't roll your eyes at customers or as you walk away, because other customers see that and it projects 'attitude'.

After a day or so, you are not going to be so nervous... Good luck and I know you will do well...

When I was fourteen, my very first job was also waitressing. To this day, I still wonder how the heck I got the job! But, I did and it worked out well.

For your situation, I would firstly advise you to dress nicely. A lot of times, people will show up to interviews in jeans simply because it's a restaurant. Dressing nicely will be imperative towards creating a great first impression. You will stand out from the crowd!

Secondly, be yourself! They are looking for people with some personality who are friendly and approachable. Make sure you smile and make good eye contact.

The other thing they are looking for is flexibility and availability. Make sure you know when you are available to work because that will probably be one of the first things they ask you. Having extra-curricular activities can be a good thing (shows you are involved, can committ, can work with others, etc.) however, they will be leary if these activities will limit your availability.

Overall, the interview will probably be short because you've never held a job before. But they will try to get a feel for your personality and if you have a good work ethic. If you can portray this, the job is yours!

Good luck!

Always show up on time. Unless you got run over by a bus, no excuses :). Do not talk about anyone at work behind their back--EVER. Do not put anything on MySpace about where you work (or any other public site). See one of today's Qs about that. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that are not too tight. NEVER go out with any of the customers or any of the bosses--it will only lead to trouble. Ask questions when you need to know something (try to figure it out yourself but don't be afraid to ask).

And finally, have fun! Keep a smile on your face and you'll be fine. Good luck!

even though most managers say you shouldnt admit that your new I find people are way more patient with you when they understand that its your first time working there.

if you make a mistake laugh it off and say "oo! I was close. hey I'm gettin' though. Thanks guys for being so patient"

good luck

don't let the drink glasses get empty and don't grab them around the top to refill them.
