I am a teacher and we do a huge unit on the Nutcracker each year. We even attend the Nutcracker Ballet. I have a Jehovah Witness as a student. Is there any reason why she would not participate in our 3 week long activities? Some activities she is just fine with..and other's she comes out and surprises me and doesn't participate.

Okay, so say she will not participate in the activities? What should I do with her?

Why not schedule an appointment with her parents, they would be happy to discuss all that with you. Don't rely on other people's response.

I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
My feeling as a parent is that this little Christian Sister will not participate in any part of this three week long activity.
It is ALL related to Christmas.
We as Christians do not participate in Holidays because the world has mixed Christian Worship with Pagan Holidays. Our Bible based belief has instructed us NOT to combine the worship of God, Jehovah, or Jesus ,His Son with any Pagan influenced Holidays.
There is a brochure that the Society of Jehovah's Witnesses puts out for Teachers especially. Unfortunately , for me and my age I have forgotten the name of it.
Please ask the parents of your young student to provide the brochure for you. It will make your life a lot less confusing.
But , off the top of my head, NO Christmas related activities.
ALSO, thanks for being kind enough to ask! Bugsie

It seems surprising that a Jehovah's Witness would enroll in a parochial school which insists that its students immerse themselves in religious festivities. Or perhaps this questioner teaches at a school in a country which does not respect the notion of separating church and state.
The Nutcracker centers on Christmas. So-called "Christmas" is merely the disguised modern name for Saturnalia (a pagan holiday celebrating the false god Saturn). True Christians do not honor pagan gods or celebrate pagan holidays, and Jehovah's Witnesses try to be true Christians.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturnalia
While the conscience of one Witness parent or student might reason that the music and dance of The Nutcracker may be appreciated for their own merits despite the storyline, no respectful person would dream of criticizing the conscientious sensibilities of another Christian who cannot reconcile personal participation in anything connected with pagan false worship of an unchristian god. In the United States, it seems rather obvious that no public school employee would foist his own religious convictions onto youth with differing religious convictions.
Perhaps this questioner and other professional educators should choose secular projects rather than religious ones with offensive overtones.

They don't celebrate Christmas. It depends on how strict of a JW he is. My uncle (A JW) once bought "Jumanji" and threw it away because there was "magic" involved.

It is probably too close to Christmas for her to be comfortable with it.

My mom was a wittness, and that for Wittnesses would be fine to do, although his parent may feel it has something to do with Christmas, therefore, his mother may not want him to do it.
