I think a lot of people just yield at stop signs more than just stop. heres the definition of yield:

In road transport, a yield (Canada, Ireland, and the United States) or give way (United Kingdom and many Commonwealth countries) traffic sign indicates that a driver of a vehicle must slow down and prepare to stop if necessary (usually while merging into traffic on another road) but does not need to stop if there is no reason to.

Agreed, hardly anyone stops were I live.

Police could make a fortune at a paticular 4 way stop in my town.
I think they are scared to stop, because the driver behind would not be expecting it and ram up their backside.

incidently - I do stop and I know it pisses some drivers off, WELL TOUGH!!!!

I would say that most people don't, unless the traffic is so heavy they have to. Saying they simply yield may be a slight exaggeration, since most people I've seen (myself included) generally use the "rolling stop" if traffic is clear.

Of course there are some that don't come anywhere near a stop, but fortunately, they're a small percentage.

A legal stop is a 3 second count. I have come to the conclusion that many people can't count to 1 let alone 3. As a professional driver (CDL for 5 years) that has been in all 48 states, many people don't know how to yield either. It is pretty much "every one for him/herself" on the roadways now.

I don't think so,I don't remember the last time I saw my parents go pass a stop sign, they stop for a second or 2,they yield.

I guess you could consider what most people do as a "Yield", but it's stretching the truth a bit.

I have a friend who use to be a police officer. His favorite ticket was failure to stop. He would sit on a corner and watch cars approach a stop sign. He would watch the valve stem in the tire. If it didn't stop rotating, they ran a stop sign.

I know... some might count that as being a bit picky.... but what is the definition of "stop". No forward motion... tire rotation has stopped. If most of us really paid attention to our "stops", I bet most of us would be surprised at how many "almost" stops we really do.

Happy and safe motoring....

No, most people I see on the road do a "rolling stop". They just slow down at the stop sign, but not actually stopping. I think that is a bad driving habit.

No, most people pull a rolling stop, or "California stop," because they are in too much of a rush to stop for the extra few seconds it would take to come to a full stop and take a look around before proceeding.

I ALWAYS STOP BECAUSE THERE ARE WAY TO MANY CRAZY PEOPLE OUT THERE.

BUT MOST OF THE TIME I SEE PEOPLE JUST COME TO ROLLING YIELD BUT NEVER A FULL STOP.
