When you take a look at the few denominations that do take the Eucharist, you can see that everyone has to earn it.
Catholics have to be free from mortal sin to be eligible. In a way, they have to earn the right to take the host.
I see what you mean, however, about "deserving the attonement". None of us really deserve Christ and his forgiveness, but as Catholics say, "...just say the word and I shall be healed."

If we had to earn taking te sacrament, we would have to have a recommend every week, and tat would not be practical.
No, you don't have to earn it. If you have some unresolved sin or you ave been ex'd or disfellowshipped, you can't take Sacrament.
And since Jesus not only gave His life for our sins, but did it in one of the most painful, inhumane way imaginable. I think that this means that everyone DESERVES the atonement. Either that, or NO one does.

Yes, if you can make it to church, by foot, bike or car, then you have earned the sacrament.
If you have sinned and have the desire to repent, you have earned the atonement. But really the atonement is free to all who come with a broken heart and a contrite spirit.
God Bless!

I never thought about earning the sacrament. I know that we must be worthy of it. We become worthy by repenting and asking forgivness of our sins. We remember and focus on the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Then it has the same effect as baptism, that we are once again clean and freed from our mistakes.

I am not quite sure what you are asking, I know if a mormon does not feel worthy, they will not take the sacrement, which is WATER and bread, by the way.

Saying Mormons believe that they "deserve" the atonement is not correct. It implies incorrectly that Mormons believe that salvation comes through works alone. Salvation comes through the grace of Christ, "after all we can do." Basically, God expects us to try our best to follow Him but knows that because we are all sinners we will fail miserably. In the end, because of our tremendous inadequacies, we are saved through Christ's grace.
Summary: We are saved through Christ's grace, but God likes to see us make a good-faith (albeit pitifully inadequate) effort to live up to His standards. We'll never deserve His atoning sacrifice, but He makes it available to us if we try our best to follow Him.

No you don't earn taking the sacrament, you get the privlige to take it. It is a privlige you can also get taken away, but you get it back. If you commit a sin bad enough to were you or your bishop thinks that you are not worthy to recieve it then you don't take it, but you always get it back unless you are excommunicated from th church. I hope that answered your question.
