Adam's sin was worse than Eve's . Eve was deceived by the Devil, but Adam was not deceived, he ate knowing it was open disobedience and rebellion against God. I think Adam couldn't stand to see Eve punished by herself because he loved her so much so he ate it too. This was also a big sin since he showed that he loved Eve more than God. But I am pretty sure they are both in heaven, after all they had 900+ years to repent. We are born with the propensity to sin yes. Did you ever have your father say to you , Son today I'm going to teach you how to disobey me , to be greedy, to be dishonest, to be naughty.... We know how to sin without any training from our parents. therefore it is a proven fact that we are born into sin as the Bible says.

The concept of Original Sin simply states that because Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, they brought Death into the world. Every human being dies because Adam and Eve committed a sin, and for their sin, all humans are punished with death. However, the Bible describes something entirely different. Adam and Eve were kicked out of the Garden of Eden because if they remained, they could eat the fruit of the Tree of Life, which would make them IMmortal. If Adam and Eve had to eat the fruit of the Tree of Life to become IMmortal, then they were created mortal to begin with. They did not bring Death into the world, and we don't die because they sinned. As a matter of Biblical fact, the answer to Question One shows that one person cannot die as the punishment for the sins committed by another. We die because Death is a natural part of existence, and has been since from the moment the first human beings were created. That is why God told the animals, before Adam and Eve ate the fruit from The Tree Of The Knowledge Of Good And Evil, to be fruitful and to multiply, since they needed to replace themselves. God also told the same thing to Adam and Eve before they ate that fruit as well.

I agree with the previous comment, original sin is a myth.

However, if you are a Christian, original sin doesn't mean that you did something wrong and are guilty of it. It means that you are born into this world flawed and sinful and their is nothing that you can do to change it.

Believing in this has two effects: if you are a religious believer it absolves God of any responsibility for anything about this world that is evil (it's not his fault, evil/sin came into existence because of their disobedience). Of course, you can take this back a step farther and say that God knew they were going to disobey and thus they were just behaving in the way God created them to behave) but Christians don't take it that far because they want to believe in God and thus have to find a way of absolving him of any responsibility for the existence of evil. 2) Second effect is I think it tends to make people passive and conservative. They tend to think that a lot of suffering is just part of the human condition and this world is vail of tears that won't really be fixed until Jesus returns.

It not only isn't our fault, it isn't Adam and Eve's fault either.

Prior to eating the forbidden fruit, neither of them had a knowledge of good or evil. They had no ability to determine one from another. So how can Eve be blamed for submitting to temptation, if she had no ability to determine right from wrong.

Without a knowledge of good or evil, none of us would be able to distinguish between the actions of Hitler or Mother Theresa. Yet we are told God let the serpent temp Eve?

Given the circumstances, it becomes clear that God wanted Evil to enter the earth, and wanted Eve to eat the fruit. He then used it as an excuse to punish all of mankind.

This is one of the many reasons I don't believe that God exists. If he does, he is incredibly cruel, given the doctrine of an eternal hell.

It is not our fault that they ate the fruit. If it had been you, maybe you wouldn't have eaten it; but you would have committed some other sin, before long, which would have had the same result. The concept is that human beings will always fall short of perfection; that it is in our very nature to commit sins.

This is only one of many interpretations. I would encourage you to speak to a clergy member, or someone well-versed in theology, if you want to pursue your question.

It obviously can't be our fault since this occured at the creation of the world. However, according to the word of God all humanity must be punished for this original sin until this world passes away and a new one is born.

its not our fault. just like when you bake a cake in a dented pan, its not the cake's fault that it comes out with dent in it. thats just what happens if you cook it in a dented pan. same with us. our first parents were 'dented' with sin, so all their offspring have that same dent. not our fault. thats just what happened. However its not an excuse to act up because even though we are imperfect, we do still have an inborn moral compass of what is right and what is wrong. It is our responsibility to try our best to do what is right or we will be held accountable.
EDIT--- If death were a natural part of life, then we wouldnt have such a hard time accepting it when a loved one dies. Death is not natural to us because we were not meant to die. Thats why the normal person can never pick a date that they would like to die, and thats why we have such a hard time comprehending death. We were not supposed to die. If Adam and Eve had not sinned, they would still be here on earth.

Adam and Eve were kicked out of the Garden for eating from the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, and therefore would be able to eat from the tree of life.

They were created mortal. Original sin is basically having knowledge of evil, and good.

It really isn't, I myself am still coping with having to suffer due to someone elses sin. But, at the same time, now a days when a parent makes a bad decision that negatively affects their child, it isn't the childs fault, but the child still suffers. Same concept. Thankfully that's what Jesus was and is for. To free us from the suffering caused by our "parents".

Religion is a hard matter. You gotta realize the authors may not really mean a literal form of the story. i would say that we are born with the power to change our lives and others around us. Humans have a lot of power in this world.
