I read somewhere that the first step to developing an eating disorder is the desire to have one.

How true is this?

it would have to be a combination of several physiological problems and some specific problem with the human psyche as no other animal on the planet does this...

It is very untrue in my opinion. (I have been diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, so i feel my opinion should carry some weight). People who conciously WANT to have a disorder will starve themselves for a day, and then binge, and get over it. I think the information you have is slightly off, because I didnt want to have a deadly mental illness in the beginning, but now I will do anything to hold onto it, I desire to keep it and have it still. I have plenty of friends who fantasize about how wonderful it would be to be anorexic for a month and ... it has absolutely no effect. thank god :)

my friend litterarly ate like 3 apples a day and went from a size 13 to size 5... honestly im completely jealous but the reality of her eating 3 apples a day her whole life is slim to none, the moment she goes back to eating her weight going to explode and pouds willl add on.. starving yourself puts your stomach in starvation mode and the moment you go back to eating normal all the food is stored as fat for the next time you stop eating.

Why would you want to have an eating disorder?? Who wants to starve themselves or throw up a lot, sounds terrible to me! If you have one you basically starve yourself from the inside out(slowly killing yourself), lose your hair, always cold, weak, lose muscle instead of fat because your body holds onto all the fat it can get, unnaturally bony, and possibly die. Sounds pretty bad to me. If someone wants this, then they must be crazy! (you can also ruin your teeth and throat if you throw up all the time)
