I want to add more color to my hallways, kitchen, living room, etc., but the problem is that i would like to avoid the color brown. The reason is cabinets in the kitchen, couches, dining tables are all brown or tan based, but I do have white tiles floors throughout the home that include brown 1/4 grout spacers. So, ideally i would like to use some green, purple, blue, pretty much any light color to make my house seem bigger.

How about a pale blue, like "Swimming" by Sherwin Williams? It's a lovely bright blue that would look fantastic with all of your wood. Brown & blue is a really hot color combo right now. Check it out:

If you have any trim or need to paint the ceiling, "extra white" will add to the brightness factor. A bright area rug will help, too:

I also think some lime colored artwork would look really smashing against that blue wall color. I like “an orchid 1941” or “Peacock Be-bop II”:

My floors are brown wood and I have brown carpet. I prefer yellows and tan's . My bedroom is a sage green and I find it relaxing and restful. My kitchen is a lite butter yellow. My extra bedrooms are a tan color called carrington beige, looks classy. Choose colors you like, find a good "paint store" and they will usually help you choose colors, or you could hire an interior decorator to help with colors usually the charge will be under $100.00

With all that dark wood, I'd stick with paler pastel shades, but I don't think blue would be a good compliment to your wood tones.
I have pine floors in a medium stain finish, and while my home is always evolving, at this time I'm using buffy yellows and soft greens in varying intensities. It looks like springtime all year 'round :) I especially like one bedroom where I painted the background a pale yellow, then sponged stripes in a slightly deeper yellow...subtle, but beyond basic.

You can create a really nice "spa" modern feeling by going with a soft blue/green..it works great with chocolate and tans. you can use those three colors (browns/blue green/and crispy white) to pull together a really nice modern look. add a rug that has all three colors and put some white accessories and it should look great. Have fun!!

If you want to accentuate your furniture and cupboards. I would use oranges, yellows, reds, in light tone colours. I know it might sound tacky to you, however the colours are beautiful. greens are out! trust me all my furniture is dark , I have all the colours i have mentioned, makes the rooms warm and comfy looking. Beiges and whites are boring.it will give you that eclectic look-very nice.
