Size has nothing to do with the dog's personality and temperment. Sweet dogs range from all different sizes - Beagles to St. Bernards!

If your friend has the time and space for a big dog, I would recommend a Lab. It must be trained, as they do get big, but this breed is quite easy to be housebroken. Affectionate, great with kids, and like you say, "nice."

You can always research the different types of dogs and decide which fits your lifestyle better. If you get a puppy remember that you will be able to train it as you would like it to be but you do also have to house train it and it needs a lot more love and attention than an older dog. The different breeds of dogs require different types of love, attention, and stimulation. Some dogs are good for outdoors while other dogs are lazy and need to be in the house. It is up to you what breed fits your personality. Good luck.

First of all, your friend should get her dog from the Humane Society, Animal Rescue, or a Shelter.

Dogs are a lot of responsibility, PERIOD. However, a smaller dog would be easier to care for. Since it sounds like you don't know much about owning dogs, I would suggest a small one. The dog's temperament has a lot to do with how it's raised to.

i have just gotten a rottweiler cross labrador cross pitbull cross st.bernard and she is adorable!!!!!!she look rotty/pitbull and has st bernard wrinkles adorable.she is hard work and she is like my baby...i cannot go to friends houses as much anymore unless i take her with me just letting you know.she is wonderful and friendly but she does chew alot!!

i recommend a pitbull if trained properly as a puppy,a lab,a st.bernard,a rotty,or a mastiff,or an akita for big dogs.for small dogs i reccomend a beagle,a jack russel although they do have energy,a yorkshire terrier, any kind of terrier.

BUT out of all of them i do have to say i prefer big dogs!they can be excellent pets as they can also be guards and protect you so nothing hurts you and they are great to swim with or play tennis with or play fetch!

Me i preffer min pins. they are really fun to play with and they will always greet you when you walk in the door. they r a little tempermintle but only to other dogs about food but thats about it. they love to sleep with you they will sleep right next to you all night. They are really really fast runners so dont drop the leash when you are walking them. I have on of my own he is 8 years old i've had him since he was 3. I treat mine like hes my child they are my favorite breed of dogs!
