What is more affective? Running for 15 minutes or jogging for an hour? Usually I run a 10 to 13 minute mile on the treadmill, but Im thinking that maybe i should be on the treadmill longer, and i would have to run slower to do so... should I?

btw... Im 14 yrs old, im 5'5" and I weigh 135 pounds. I want to lose 10 pounds.

running for 15 minutes will only increase your speed for short distances..jogging for an hour will definatley help you in the long run..increasing blood flow through out the body and helping burn more calories which will eventually help you loose the 10 pounds you want..but you also have to watch what you eat..run slower..but dont run to slow to the point where its too easy
i have a feeling that at 14 years old and only 135..you can definately do a mile fast then 13 minutes..being that the average for someone your age is around 7 minutes..

Hi I'm Kaywonn and I'm 14, i'm 5'7" and weigh 110 pounds...
Usually what helps me the most is run the mile every once a week then jog the rest of the days for half an hour...
I try my best to keep up with everone...
I guess thats why I'm in the top 10...
lol
If you keep this up like I do them you shouldn't have a problem with losing those extra 10 pounds...
lol
I hope this answers your question...

Don't get hung up on semantics. The late Jim Fixx made no distinction between running and jogging - because to do both, you must have both feet off the ground during the process. Whereas, walking, both feet never leave the ground at the same time.

YOu are correct that you should just slow down and take more time in your workout. Regardless of how fast you run, you should lengthen your workout to a full hour by including walking.

Good Luck

Running and Jogging are the same thing.
A ten minute mile is a good basic pace. If I were you I'd keep with that pace and try to increase my time. An hour at a 10 minute mile pace is a good everyday run.
Of course check with your parents and your physician to see what is appropriate for you.

By cutting excess calories out of your diet you could probably lose that weight easily. Don't drink soda, look for drinks with very low or no calories and cut out sugars. At your age you shouldn't have a hard time at all staying in good shape as long as you're active.
You could definately start out slow on the treadmill and help burn calories and get your heart rate up.

Going slower is the key. Always. When you're starting out, the most common mistake is to go fast. The speed will come before you know it.
