ok it is not WHERE you train so much as WHO is training you and how well you are learning from that teacher.
THAT is what is most important. NOT where they are located. My Best teacher did not even have a real school, he had just about ten of us in his house and back yard for about ten years before we actually decided to get a place and we have one still today and that was 18 years ago.
SO NO being at a YMCA means nothing good or bad in my opinion, the status and character of the teacher is what DOES matter!! Check their references out!!

Id rather go get instruction at the "Y" than sign a contract... My former instructor did it for 5 years for free in the back of a grocery store.... when I was there (10 years ago) he had over a hundered students, a whirlpool and a sauna in the Dojang he built (in a town with a population of 2000 ppl).... it is not where the instructor is teaching, but why he is teaching

The YMCA can sometimes be good it depends entirely on the instructor. I have a friend who trains at the YMCA an has a great instructor who does it at the YMCA because he is semi retired and doesn't want the hassle of running a business.

Just depends on who is teaching. I took boxing at a YMCA and the trainer went onto develope a future light heavyweight champion. I don't think anyone knew how good he was at that time though. Just try to look at the quality of instruction. You can also look at competition results for a good gauge.

I teach at the YMCA.
The price you pay is a really great deal.
You get to use the facilities aside from being taught MA.
Now on the quality, that depends on who is teaching there.
