I am currently at university studying avionics. Ive always wanted to become a pilot and this will hopefully be my next step. I would like to know how other pilots have gone through the training and their own experience of this? thanks

get a pilots lisense, then fly alot, until you get enought hours in to get a job as a pilot, I'm sure it's only several thousand hours

Take out a pilot's loan (hefty) and pay for professional training to become an airline pilot in the end, but an instructor first.
Many schools will have this as a programme and employ their former students as instructors for a given period. Or you can scout around and work for other companies.

Build hours as an instructor (you will be poor but get the needed hours) and then when you get your ATPL you will have a lot of experience. You can get the minimum licenses without becoming an instructor, but getting a job in the airlines afterwards will probably be harder and take longer.

The ex-instructors I know have walked (ok not exactly, but comparitively) into airline jobs, whereas those who dont have this experience have found it much harder and spent much longer looking / doing other jobs to fill in the time.

Or get Daddy to pay for it ;)

Hmm, the RAF is one of the most professional, possibly the most professional, maybe after the Israelis, air forces in the world. But they do have a lot of crummy old equipment and it has taken more than twenty years to get the Eurofighter in to service... which MoD(PE) are answerable for.

Anyway, borrow a lot of cash and put yourself through one of the big aviation schools. Then get a job for someone like FedEx flying Caravans to small airfields until you can build up your hours. The lack of a major war has led to the inevitable shortage of trained pilots as the Vietnam generation retires so it's getting easier.

You could also fly in Australia, they need a lot of pilots in the outback, it all adds to your hours.

If you have the aptitude, and they don't notice your highly questionable attitude, you could apply for the USAF/USN/USMC. They are desperate for mugs to fly in combat these days since not even enough Republicans want to die for George Bush's war (heh, that's going to cost me). That'll get you US citizenship in a few years too, but if you prove to be useless you'll end up driving an unarmored cargo truck through Baghdad.

save £10,000 .. then flow on your interior of sight flight college (there is one at very virtually each and every small airport, basically flow right down to the airport to take a glance around) and sign your self up for a private Pilot course. it somewhat is going to take some weeks in case you do it each and on a daily basis with greater suitable than one lesson an afternoon, or various months in case you unfold it out. you are able to not gets a commission to fly until eventually you a advertisement Pilot's license however, which expenditures greater and takes longer and so lots greater reading time. To substitute right into a advertisement pilot on airliners you will could do an entire ATPL (Airline transport Pilot's license) which will take an entire one twelve months residential course or you're able to do an prolonged modular course. because of the fee of instructions and so on, lots of faculties do as lots of the clever area as possible in united statesa. because of the fact it somewhat is greater fee-effective, meaning time away out of your loved ones. Doing it interior the united kingdom is greater costly. you may get loans for the full component (form of like mini mortgages) that are in extra £50k, HSBC do them. Your interior of sight flight college could have the potential to signify you. faculties in England that furnish residential ATPL courses are Oxford Aviation, Cabair college of Air education (CCAT), EPTA. look them up on google for specific information. As an airline pilot however, i think of your objectives of spending lots of time with your loved ones are unrealistic. A flight instructor may be a greater suitable concept, yet i don't be responsive to how reliable this is funds-clever, excpecially with the crunch. the suitable concept is to flow on your interior of sight college and ask their suggestion. sturdy success!
