Find the configuration software for the sound card. You may have to refer to the owners manual that came with your computer. When you find and launch the software look for items that may be turned on such as SRS or simulated surround and turn them off.

If you have a really good sound card, not the one that came on the mother board of the computer, you might also have to look for things like echo, reverb, chorus. Any of these things will cause an echo effect and simply turning them off will solve the problem.

If those ideas don't help, buy a decent sound card for your computer. SoundBlaster is a reliable choice.
