I am a Christian. My thermostat is at 65 and It's cold outside- but I am trying to conserve energy. My lightbulbs are the new compact florescent ones, I recycle more than I throw away. I am upset when I see communities growing fast when there are no resources to support them (not enough h2o, etc...) I buy resale when possible to conserve energy and resources. I don't drive a gas guzzler and I consolidate errands into as few trips as possible.

It bugs me when atheists say Christians don't protect the earth.

Thumbs up for everyone doing something. GOd may have created the world for our use- but that doesn't mean we can trash it. WOuldn't you be upset if you gave your kid a priceless gift and he/she trashed it?

It just bugs me when people like Chris say the world belongs to the Lord, then proceed to think it's okay to destroy it. Even if He does come back and reclaim the earth, I think He'd be pleased if all the rivers and oceans were clean, the polar caps intact, and every species created still roaming about.

Whether or not the world is suffering from global warming/cooling, the pollution, toxic chemicals, and overflowing landfills are posing serious hazards to our habitat.

Since when has evolution and destruction been considered to be the same thing?

I set my thermostat at 66 (I have medical issues so I can't have it too low), I changed all the light bulbs in my house to the 7 yr energy saver ones, I recycle and get on my husbands case when he doesn't do it correctly :-), I have canvas shopping bags so I'm not taking plastic that cannot be recycled, I try to buy all my groceries in containers that are recyclable, I have a very small, gas efficient car and I'm looking to install solar panels on my roof.

I've never said all Christians don't protect the earth - just some of them aren't interested it in it.

Bravo! I'm an atheist, and I gave you a star.

I doubt that any atheist thinks that *no* christians protect the Earth. We should all be able to discern whether a question refers to us, even if the asker forgets to include the word "some."

I just cut beef out of my diet. Cattle farming is pretty horrible to the environment.
I rarely drive.
I recycle when I can. (living in a small town, this can be quite a feat)

You know what the #1 thing that is causing all of these problems? Our population. If we decreased our population, we wouldn't have to worry about pollution and using up all our resources as much.

The earth's population is what will eventually destroy the earth.

I'm a big believer in birth control.

I say, if you're worried about the earth, and you want kids, adopt.

Pagan-- I do just about the same things (energy saving double-pane windows, energy saving lights, recycle) and I plant as many trees as I can on my little property. In AZ it's warm enough that I don't need heating and cool enough that the AC is off. And I use carpools and since town will be close at my new home-- horse power!
