I think we need religion, in an improved version, if we are ever going to transform the morality of this planet to a higher level, required by our technological age. The simple solution, of just gettin rid of something, that is not work well enough, most of the time does not work. One, most of the time, needs to keep our institution that are responsible for a particular area of our life, and work to make change within them. Either that or create replacement institutions with the same purpose. Making no effort in this area, and abstaining will make you less of a factor, in making the world more moral, and more spiritually attuned.

The first religion is that "my happiness is more important than everybody elses". Everybody assumes that it is true. If we abstained from that then there would be a lot less poverty in the world. So yes you are right.

No because there will always be someone that will believe in a Deity and they will be persecuted by those that do not. You can't legislate what a person feels inside. Besides, if you can create a society that abstains from having a belief they why can't you create a society that practices tolerance...from believers as well as non-believers?

If religion were to blame. I suspect it's a red herring, though. If religion disappeared, the world's problems would still be here; there'd be some new excuse for the suffering in the world.

It's like the poster with the sun shining between the twin towers of the WTC that quotes John Lennon: "Imagine ... no religion."

If it's all the same to you-I think believing in God is the best part of this world. If we took that away-it would be one empty, cold world. I dont want that-do you?
