If he is 8 weeks old, he should be fine, but start out by feeding him some soft dog food from a can, but I wouldn't go with the formula way unless he was 5 weeks or less old.....he should be fine, just give him your immeditate love and attention. Please make sure you give him soft food to start out with, then start making some hard food soggy, and then mix hard food with that and then go to hard food....this will take about 2-4 weeks to get to the 100% hard food stage.

First, there is no such a thing as a miniature chihuahua. Any breeder who claims that is disreputable and lying. A puppy 8 weeks old is more than old enough to be weaned and away from its mother. A puppy should be fed a high quality puppy formula dog food for the first 12 months of it's life. Baby food would not be appropriate and would likely give the puppy the runs. The only human food that is appropriate is fruits and vegetables or chicken with rice. Dog food is the best choice though since it is nutritionally complete.

The breeder may have lied to you about the age of the pup. Those "breeders" who advertise "teacups, minis, pocket pups, etc" will do other unethical things to convince you that your dog is "special". If it was not weaned, it should have been left with the mother. The main thimng you need to watch for is low blood sugar(hypoglycemia). It can kill a tiny chi pup quicker than anything. You need to soak the dry puppy food in warm water until it is softened. Feed him about 4 times a day. Buy a tube of NUTRICAL from the vet or a pet store and give it a little first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Good luck with your little one.

8 weeks is old enough to be weaned are you sure the dog is not younger a lot of breeders have sold pups as young as 4 weeks letting people think they are tea-cups(NO SUCH THING AS A TEA_CUP)by begin this small at 8 weeks you can give it 1 tsp of can puppy food a day but no more it will give it the runs also leave food dry puppy food and water out for it at all times you will need to watch for sugar drops it will die fast if it drops and you don't get it back up fast

He should be eating by himself at this age. I would start him on wet food with some milk replacer in it to keep it slurpy.
Coccidia usually shows up in dogs under stress. Be sure to stay on the look out for diarrhea, and take him to the vet at the first sign of problems.
And because he is small, you are going to have to make sure he eats at least 5-6 times a day. Small chis are prone to hypoglycemia.
The Teacup label just means he is small. It's an adjective not really a noun that describes a breed. He should do fine if you keep a really close eye on him.

well first of all there is no such thing as a mini chihuahua or a teacup chihuahua or any other thing that refers to them as smaller than normal. there r only two types of chihuahuas short haired and long haired. and now it is ur responsibility to wean him. go to the pet store and get milk replacer and puppy food. put the milk replacer and puppy food together and over the next few days start decreasing the amount of milk replacer and increase the amount of food until u have all dry food and no milk replacer. dont start him on staright milk replacer or it will be harder to wean him

NO you cant feed him baby formula that is for humans.. however you can feed a pet suppliment. I would strongly recommend taking him to your vet. Or if possible let him stay with his mother until he is 11 weeks old as he is such a small breed of dog. Good luck !

I'd say give him back... least for now. Give the breeder something that has your scent on it so that the puppy can get used to your smell. Then, when you take the puppy in a few weeks, he knows your scent, and there is less separation anxiety.
That's what our breeder did. When we picked him up, it's like he's know us his entire life. It was awesome!!!

are you confused???
You just asked a similar question about wanting to take the pup but the breeder wouldn't let you??? that was like a few minutes ago and now you suddenly have the dog???
WTF, are you trolling or just really off your meds...
Give it back to the breeder or what ever until you are grown up enough to tell the truth and not post several very different stories about the same puppy, trying to get help because you screwed up!!!

I agree, if you are trying to find a way around weaning those puppies yourself, you should not. It would result in bad consequences for the puppies. You really need to research weaning and go from there.
