yes animals get depressed.

more than not the doggie is use to having the other around and does not understand where they went.... or is just sad because they are not there anymore.

It's no differnt than humans losing best friends.

take the doggie to PETCO and let him/her pick out a new toy, get them some special chews and treats and just spend the next month or so playing with the doggie so they know that you still love them.

after a while the doggie will come out of it. Also the doggie needs exposure to the kitten to get use to it too. Perhaps the dog will take care of the kitten as a new best friend. :D

good luck

My dog was depressed when we first got him. He had already been through at least two homes, was 10 pounds overweight, and was at the pound for almost a year. The worst part was, he hates dogs! Poor pup! When he came home for the first time he seemed happy, but he would always be unsure of things and would just stare at us with sad eyes. I almost can't recognize my dog in his first pictures. He just looked so depressed.

Yes dogs can get depressed, you can even get antidepressants from the vet for them, for severe cases. But dogs can get depressed from a loss of companion, a move, a change in their environment etc. the best thing you can do is spend time with them, plenty of TLC and exercise.

Absolutely! When I first brought my dog home all she did was have her head down, blah. She had been given up by her family, spent 3 weeks at the pound, then spayed and to my house. How depressing! But now she's chipper and happy!

Yes... dogs get depressed. They have feelings.

Include her more... play with her more, have her play with the kitten along with you, etc... Make her feel part of everything.

yes, 90% of dogs get it before their death. Give your dog as much love as your cat, that is why, My dog got VERY jelous, (thinking she was depressed) when i got a kitten.

yes they can.She may be depressed because of the death, and also u may be paying more attention to the kitten, and not playing with your dog more.

I believe they can. One day, I took my Border Collie out to the sheep farm where we train for herding. But we were unable to train that day and I merely fed the sheep and we left. The rest of the day she was entirely mopey because she didn't get to work her sheep.

Dogs can become depressed. Ask you vet to recommend a dog behaviorist for you.
