then how does it exist in nature? Something that is a common animal behavior cannot be unnatural.

This is for all those people who say it is not natural.

I can accept that humans are animals. We are a highly advanced animal, but we are still animals.

Averell: Yes, I have actually. A couple of times.

A dog, two chinchillas, a parrot, and a horse.

As for it being bad for a species... Well, Flamingos have a 30% chance of raising young to adult hood.

Often, two males will build a nest, and either mate with a female (who leaves the egg behind for them), or foster an abandoned (or stolen) egg. When raised by two fathers, the offspring has an 80% chance of survival.

Hello Lucid!

Animals are not purely instinctual. Some are very much emotional, and planners. While it is not on a human level of intelegence, it is still true. Many species of animals form life long, or long lasting relationships with eachother. Many animals mourn the death of a group member.

If one dolphin is in danger, the others will remain to try to protect it. Elephants return to the location where a herd mate dies. Often gently toching the bones if they are still there. I've personally witnessed the effect death has on a variety of pets.

These are behaviors that humans have. So either these behaviors are above pure instinct, or they are instinctual in us as well.

Matthew, alchahol is fine in moderation.

You are not born with alchaholism. It is something you gain from over doing, just like any other addiction.

Actually, I've heard a few biologists go so far as to say that not one species has been found that does not exhibit homosexuality, excluding those species that do not sexually reproduce.

777....yes, they are natural if they happen in nature.

Playing a little devil's advocate here. While I do believe there are gays who are born gay, I want to throw out an objective view on this. Humans, as animals dont eat our young, nor do we cannabalize each other (well the percentages are much much much lower than homosexuality) I dont believe it is found that animals run on anything but instinct, and humans have a much higher developed brain, so can we compare a species that relies completely based on instinct to a species which relies for the most part on our reasoning? I have a ton of other thoughts on this, but it will start looking like a copy/paste job :)

I can see the point that you are attempting to make but I do not believe that you understand "nature" in the terms that it was probably presented to you. They probably intended "unnatural" in terms of "contrary to design". For most of science and religion the purpose of sexual organs and drives is quite clear...to perpetuate the species. Homosexuality would seem contrary to this as it would not result in offspring. This is the reason as to why to find both spiritual and scientific arguements against homosexuality.
Personally, I see it as very natural. I tend to see it as a mechanism to keep things in balance. Nature has many means at keeping populations in check...natural disasters, predators, etc. This may simply be an internal mechanism to slow population growth. I have come to accept is as part of nature...Who knows...it may even be a next step in human evolution....

With God's blessing, misogynistic Jewish scribes encoded a raft of sex crimes which sanctified racial ambition. The sacred mission was to populate and subdue the earth. Judaism bequeathed its unfortunate mix of ignorance and intolerance to a wayward faction of heretics known to the world as Christians. The enthusiasts of Christ elaborated on the notion that the body was a source of shame and that women were an inferior breed. Mortification of the flesh became the path of 'spiritual purity'.

But a triumphant Catholicism happily compromised the fierce strictures of the founders for worldly advantage. The 'Gospel of Sin' became a source of wealth and power for the pimping priests. Predators replaced the puritans. The consequence is that for two millennia Christianity's anti-sexual, puritanical doctrines have inflicted untold damage on the mental, emotional and physical lives of countless millions of people.

At the heart of the Christian religion lies a disturbing hostility towards humanity's essential physicality. Though less stridently proclaimed today than in earlier eras, the circumspection, disdain and outright condemnation of human sexuality in the dogmas of the church has given rise, for two millennia, not only to the most monumental hypocrisy but to all manner of sexual-emotional disorders. In simple terms, sex was, and remains, a distraction, rival, and enemy of organized religion – and in private moments, an indulgence and reward of its high priests.

Repressed sexuality, on the other hand, can be channeled into a fierce piety and kill-joy religiosity, its uncompromising ardour harnessed for the purposes of the Church. But "inner conflict" is a predictable consequence, as is an obsessive preoccupation with other people's sexual predilections. The faith-based moralizer rages over private pleasures, such as homosexuality and the "sanctity of human life" – whilst condoning without embarrassment the slaughter of distant peoples who do not happen to share their own peculiar interpretation of the divine.

I think theists get the idea of "natural" and "normal" mixed up. Homosexuality is a completely natural behaviour in nature. Where the problems begin is in the notion of what is considered normal behaviour. Depending on the society being looked at and it's basic values and tenants, homosexuality can be considered more normal or a higher form of sexual expression over heterosexual behaviour. All one needs to do is look at the ancient Greek society to see this being played out.

i'm a woman and that i'm straight away. i think of a few women human beings are alluring yet that doesn't recommend i'm sexually involved in women human beings. there isn't something incorrect with being gay, bisexual, or straight away. it somewhat is unnatural for adult adult males to sleep with different adult adult males and it somewhat is unnatural for women folk human beings to be collectively. verify out human anatomy and you would be responsive to why it somewhat is unnatural. i'm in my mid 20's, i'm a virgin, and that i can't have intercourse until eventually i'm married. some human beings say being celibate is unnatural. there isn't something incorrect with abstinence and that i may be a virgin in spite of if i substitute right into a lesbian.

Thank you. At least somebody can see correctly. Your sexuality is not a choice, nor is it wrong. When will people get over themselves?

Homosexuality has been a normal occurrence since the beginning of time. One has to be completely ignorant not to see that and accept it.

Oh no, its not unnatural for animals, just for humans. Who are of course living by an entirely different........oh.
Humans are un-natural by definition then.....if animals are natural and different rules apply to us then to them. So.......homosexuality is our natural un-natural state?

Gotta love logic sometimes. It can really confuse an issue......
Either that or many Christians really need to work on the prescise meaning of words. Perhaps a brief course in semantics..?

Leviticus 18:21-22
21"'Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molech, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the LORD. 22"'Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.
Leviticus 20:13
13"'If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

Romans 1:26-27
26For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error.

1 Timothy 1:8-10
8Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it legitimately. 9This means understanding that the law is laid down not for the innocent but for the lawless and disobedient, for the godless and sinful, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their father or mother, for murderers, 10fornicators, sodomites, slave traders, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to the sound teaching
1 Corinthians 6:9-10
9Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, 10thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers--none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.
1 John 1: 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Revelation 21:8
But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

It's not that it isn't natural. Everything that occurs in nature is natural. It's just that in the animal world, such a trait would be bred out of a species, or at the very least be found in an extremely minimal sampling of the population because no self-respecting, practical straight animal is going to mate with a gay animal. They are too focused on survival. Humans are different. They will mate with anyody. What they lack is the self-respect and practicality that the animals have.
