Doesn't that mean that he created Hell? Why would a loving god created such a horrific place and cast his children into it? Even the parents of serial killers wouldn't purposely hurt their children. Please explain.

I'm an atheist who was raised Catholic, I'm just curious to see how a Christian would answer this question.

God did creat hell, its in the bible. he created it for satan and his followers. The reason he created it was because no sin is allowed in heaven. Its like if your dad was a judge and you just murdered 3 innocent children and you even say you did it.He would have to find you guilty and sentence you for your crime which in some states is death or life in prison. But he is a loving God and sent his son Jesus to die and make a way for you to go to heaven even when you did wrong by the law.

Hell is a human construct. After the Church was founded, in the Middle Ages, it created the concept of the Devil to frighten people into behaving. Along with that came the idea of a Hell - a place were people suffered forever.
Before the Church there was no such concept in the world.
Don't believe everything you were taught, and don't believe the Bible should be taken literally.

If god is all powerful, all knowing, and is eternal, then it must have responsibility for its own actions.

Yes, a god would be culpable for the eternal torture inflicted on the majority of humans who do not believe in a specific deity. That is quite terrible, isn't it?

There is another way to look at it. Hell, heaven, deities, sin, and threats of violence were ancient ways of looking at the world and getting people to believe in a specific religion. It's pretty clear that the supernatural has no basis (evidence). Learn about opposing points of view and never forget to question.

Contrary to Dolly M, Hell does exist. It is mentioned I believe 54 times in the Bible (KJV). The answer to the question is YES, GOD did make hell. However, as it is mentioned in scripture hell was made for the devil and his followers, NOT for us. However, when Adam 'fell', it opened up a whole new door. That action allowed Satan to have a stronger hold on earth (i.e now people from a child will rebel naturally as opposed to living pure naturally). From here on out God had to make hell larger to fit the ones who chose to follow Satan. God never WANTED to hurt his creation, but out of His love for us He gave us the freedom of choice, live for Him or live in sin. It's completely up to us. However, we are shown in scripture the consequences of both decisions. It all boils down to OUR choice to go to hell. God doesn't just throw us there, we decide to go despite Gods pleadings to make the right decision. So, as the bible says in John 3:17 "For He (Jesus) did not come into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."
God loved us from the very beginning and even sent His only son to die on the cross so that we could avoid hell.

Sounds like love to me.

show me in the bible - where it says hell is that evil horrible place that "MAN" has made up to install fear in us please.? You WONT be able to. Cos it doesnt exist. The bible speaks of sheol and hades - which are just shallow graves where the dead are unconcious of nothing resting asleep. If GOd is a loving god - why would he create hell? HE didnt. Next time you see a priest or vicar - ASK him to show you in the bible where it speaks of it. He wont be able to.Watch his embarrasement. COs its a false made up docrine.

They will say that people actually deserve to be tortured in hell forever because they didn't believe in the "one true god".

That concept alone proves the sickness of that religion.

sure abraham would have purposely hurt his child, haven't you seen the Good News Bible, picture that shows Ab with the knife pulled out on his son. no wonder jews are considered evil sometimes by some people. and don't think that's racist, every race has it's evil people. i think abraham was one of them. had i been around i would have put ab in jail and found a nice arian family to love and cherish the poor child.
