Do you know why?

I put some peroxide on my hair yesterday to make it lighter. I heard it might change your hair orange so I just put it on a 1 inch by 1 inch section where I can see what color it changes to and pass it off as a highlight but it's been over 24 hrs and there is absolutely no change in color. My hair is as black as ever. Do you know why?
