The idea of the virgin birth was conceived (interesting choice of words) and voted upon at the first council of nicea in 325AD. Basically, Mary was not a virgin until 300 years after she died!
There is also a significant amount of evidence to suggest that Jesus was a middle child, having both an older and younger brother, though the older brother died very young.
Read the book, 'the Jesus papers'.. very informative.

I don't believe virginity has anything to do with pain factor. Knew a girl who got pregnant even though "technically speaking" she was a virgin and the perceived pain of childbirth is different from woman to woman.
But, I would like to believe that God gave her a break.

Imagine a fourteen year old girl giving birth without the aid of pain relief or modern medicine.
That kind of crap was commonplace in the ancient world. People just took ideas present in their own lives and attached supernatural beliefs to it. Religion is merely a reflection of a specific time and place.

Mariology - as EVA was cursed with the pain of childbirth after her disobedience (and Adam with the labour of blood sweat and tears) Mary reverses the Curse AVE by her unconditional obedience to the Spirits promting -"and the annointed is born Not by will of the flesh but by the will of the Divine" (no pain)

Neither, there never was a virgin birth. And if there was I would like to see some proof first before making any assumptions on that topic.

During her contractions her hymen was probably torn/destroyed possibly causing a flow of blood, but by the time she was fully dilated the birth itself was probably no different than another.
Since Isaiah 53 says Jesus would be just a regular person, not of any great stature, He was probably your typical 6 pound baby so the birth should have been normal.

not all births are painful even with a first child...mary might have felt pain, but with being as tired as she was and fighting to find a place just to stay the night being so traumatic for them both, she probably didn't notice any pain...she was just thankful for a place to lay down...miracles happen and everything about Jesus' birth is a miracle...don't listen to all those naysayers...they will find their answer when it comes to judgement day and find they are all wrong!!! then watch them beg to be forgiven and let into heaven...it won't happen, but they can try...

I think about as painful as for anyone who gives birth completely natural. But since It was Jesus I would venture to say It probably tickled and smelled like a glades plug-in.

I don't know about the virgin birth, but I will tell you there's a reason my daughter was an only child!

Seeing as she was married by then, she wouldn't have been a virgin anymore. :P
But think about how much it'd hurt to push an unyielding watermelon out of your mouth. A basketball out a nostril. That's it.
