Since you asked this question in the Etiquette section, the only correct answer is "ignore it." Ignore it and move on with a smile on your face.
The first rule of proper etiquette is that one does not point out the mistakes that others make; you focus on making those in your company feel comfortable. Ignoring the comment:
1) Makes others feel more comfortable because they will not be subjected to a cat fight.
2) Actually makes the person who made the insult look pretty stupid.
3) Establishes *you* as an emotionally mature person.
Ignore the comment and *you* win. : )

Ummm...You mean its never happened to you before...Because you should know how to react to verbal insults by now...I mean your old enough to go on the internet and ask questions on yahoo right? If you've never been insulted before then you should thank your lucky stars, you are luckier than most...and don't let one insult have you go around wasting your time deciding how you should react to it, either react right away or not at all...LET IT GO

If the insult was unwarranted, and everybody saw it, just do nothing. People will sympathize with you and consider the other person to be a jerk.

Kindly ask them to keep their rude and immature comments to themselves, or take the bitchy route and kindly inform them that: "although I would love to sit her and listen to the mumbling of a Neanderthal as enthralling as yourself, I have better things to do, like breath. No shoo, you idiot."
**Hope that helps**

Do the unexpected, thank them for their opinion, tell them you'll think about it and then walk away.

Get really hurt. Keep on thinking about what they said and why they shouldn't have said it. Then get really angry and make a scene.
Well that's what I do anyway.
