She's starting the weaning process and YOU need to be feeding them a high quality puppy food mush 4 times a day.

This is natural puppies should begin being weaned at 3-4 weeks old.
In the beginning you start giving them puppy show mixed with water or goats milk ( never use cows milk) make this like soup. Remove mom so pups food isn't eaten by her. put there little noses in the food to get them started, some may need to have some put in their mouths. This should be given to them 4 times a day.
at 5 weeks make it thicker. offer them a bowl of water.
at 6 weeks just barely softened and also leave a bowl of dry puppy food down so they can begin to pick at it. by 7-8 weeks they should be weaned.
Pups along with mom should be wormed ( using what the vet gives not over the counter) at 2,4,6,and 8 weeks old.
Pups should get their first shots at 6 weeks,9 weeks and 12 weeks and rabies at 16 weeks and spay or neuter at 5-6 months.
Pups can go to new homes at 8-10 weeks once you know for sure they are eating solid food only.

As soon as pups begin getting their teeth at 4 to 4 1/2 wks. the Moms will start weaning them.If pups are 4 wks. old you can start feeding them a good puppy dry formula soaked in warm water til sofetened, then mix a small amount of a good canned puppy food.Try making the food with a sorta thin consistancy, but not too thin.Pups should be feed three times a day.

OMG, people!! If you don't know the right answer...(especially if you aren't even close) don't answer!!( or go ahead and delete it so I look like I'm angry at no one....rolling eyes)

The mother is weaning them...it is nauture taking it's course. You need to begin supplimenting them2-3 times a day with moistened puppy food, and be prepared for them to make a mess and splash into it at first....it's a messy learning experience. And make sure to watch and see that all are eating and getting enough at each sitting.

She is not a bad mother, she just knows her body and nature's timing better than the people on here evidentally do.

i have to laugh at the people commenting that the pups are to young to be not getting milk, the pups should be getting weaned by now get some whelpi from the vet and a good complete puppy kibble ( royal canin babydog) heat the milk and pour it into the kibble and let it sit until its almost obsorbed then blend it up into a moist paste put it into dishes and set it down for the pups (wait for it to cool!) this will teach them to lap up food & you might have to guide some to the dish ,dont forget some fresh water at all times. its better to let them have their last drink about 9pm and put some more out in the morning that way theres less chance of them peeing in the house during the night. do what i said with the pasty food and gradually every couple of days put less and less milk into it until finaly the pups will be on solid kibble ( although i always add a little boiled water to my dogs kibble to release the flavours and so it isnt to dry and of course leave it to cool)

5 weeks is textbook weaning age but sometimes a mother gets in a rush. DO you know how to make puppy gruel? (mix puppy food with milk) its past time they should be supplemented with that so they get enought to eat.

Because it's painful, and she's just not a very good mommy. You're probably going to have to start supplementing the pups if they start looking thin. Go to the store and get some puppy formula so they don't starve. A puppy should be very round after drinking milk.

It is time to start weaning!!! Time to offer mash and get them going!!!!!!!

Nursing is not the puppies sole nutrition until they are 8 weeks!!!! At three to four weeks, it is time to begin feeding them!!!!!! She will have to nurse them less and less and natural weaning will occur!!! Happens all the time.

Her nipples might be sore, also you should be starting to ween them by giving them a good soft puppy food. they might just be taking to much out of her and she is getting frustrated.
