I was feeding both, but I found that my Mastiff puppy was getting very finicky and was having loose stool. I am feeding kibble exclusively now, and it took the bugger the better part of a week to accept the fact that he wasn't getting any extra goodies! I'm serious, no table scraps, no treats of any real substance but Milk Bones and Meaty Bones. I felt kind of bad about it at first because I wouldn't want to live on dry cereal for the rest of my life, would you? But they are dogs at the end of the day, aren't they? And I got so sick and tired of cleaning up the squirts, not to mention spending $100.00 per month on dog food! What has been your experience with feeding kibble? Does the dog just live on it until the day they die or do they ever turn up their nose and refuse to eat it? Just curious, because I had a very spoiled pup on my hands up until a week ago. Thanks!

I feed Eagle Pack Holistic Select for Large and Giant Breeed Puppies. It's a great food! I just don't want my guy to get bored!

stick with the dry food only they wont starve themselves. canned food is bad for their teeth and it is full of flavoring that will cause them to only want to eat the canned stuff

Has a lot more to do with the quality and nutrition of the food than wet or dry.
Dry kibble is far more nutritious, canned is mostly water, plus dry does not cause so much tartar build up on a dog's teeth.
Main thing is to feed good dry - Canidae or something with meat as the first ingredient, not meat meal and corn fillers with artificial ingredients.
You can mix the good dry with a little canned, that's what I do for all 5 of mine, plus I add a little brown rice and white meat, boneless, skinless chicken.
Much cheaper to feed quality kibble, not supermarket junk, than to pay vet bills down the road.

Excellent question! I found that when I removed the canned food from my adopted dogs diet and replaced it with mostly dry (Purina One) and a little boiled hamburger her bad breath went away and she ate every meal. Her dry food is high in protein and good grains, not as many fillers as even the most expensive brands, and less crap than most. I like to add boiled chicken or ground beef to give her an interest in her food. Just a tablespoon twice a day with the dry and a little hot water to mix all, is better than once a day which I think makes a dog ravenous.

My vet has told me that dry dog food is good for their teeth and perfectly fine for dogs unless they have bad gums and loose teeth. In my opinion, you should feed a high quality dog food that doesn't containe corn or wheat. Look at Eagle pack (some of thier formulas have corn, but some don't) Wellness, Canidae, and the like. I feed Eagle Pack, and my picky beagle has gone through six bags of it and isn't sick of it yet... with all the big name brands like Science diet, Iams, and Eukanuba, he would eat a bag or two and then refuse it.

well we give our two pups kibble. lams is totally awsome!
If it's a special day like their Birthday or Christmas or something we put raw eggs, milk, and bread on top of it they just love it! Oh and about the dry cereal my dogs like a little water on top of their kibble!who knew!I would never buy my pup canned food I mean think about they don't need that balloni! If you're on a budget buy really large bags at a time of dog kibble it should help loads!Oh and about the squirts...well
next time you take a trip to the vets office you may want to ask if this is normal...Bacon bites are awsome for treats we use whole weat crackers for treats here and our pups just love em!Hope this helps you!

Dogs are good about eating the same thing everyday with no problem, they don't care cats are the finiky ones. I feed Purina Puppy Chow and Pedigree "Little Champions" in a mixed form to my Welsh Corgis morning and at night. Feeding JUST canned food I've found has more of a liklieness of poop issues, but mine do awesome on the mix.

I feed mostly kibble with the occasional meal of canned food. Dogs have fewer taste buds than humans so eatting the same thing all the time doesn't bother most of them.

I have only fed dry dog food to my dogs. I have never had a problem. Dogs that eat canned food alot , tend to have alot of teeth problems. I will feed a scrap her and there but not much. I also feed with the open bowl policy, this works for me, I know some dogs can't handle it.

I give my mastiff both dry and canned. She has tricked me into offering more canned because she doesn't eat much of the dry until it is covered in gravy from the can. Dry is always available, and she gets lots of treats. She's so sensitive, I spoil her just trying to keep her happy.

I feed my Danes both. I always have fed my dogs both. A good quality canned food contains alot of good usable meat protein.
I feed Wellness/Canidae dry and Merrick, Wellness or Canidae wet.
