I just graduated from Marine Corps recruit training and was wondering what I will be doing? My MOS is 0621 Field Radio Operator. Am I going to be one of those guys carrying a giant radio on his back and walking the terrorist streets with the grunts? Because I hope not. I am really hoping I stay on base wiring up buildings and stuff and repairing things.

Jesus H Christ........I humped a PRC47 radio! You will be with the Grunts where you will be best needed! Why did you join the Corps if you wanted to sit and "wire and repair stuff" on the base? You could have done that in the Navy.
You are a Marine now so put some hair on that sack and call airstrikes, medivacs, arty and sitreps like a frickin' Marine!!!
Your fellow Marines are depending on you!!

Not sure what the Marines require an operator to do, will guess that some "direct support maintenance" will be involved.

Dude, don't be too freaked out. My son had the exact same MOS from the Marines. He went to Iraq, he trained alot of Iraqi soldiers to do stuff on the radio and communicate with their own. He didn't see anything too gruesome, he was mostly behind the lines. It's ok to be a bit freaked out, it will work out. Don't listen to the meanies on here. Just keep your head down and your *** covered. Ooooooooooooh rah!

LOL, you my man are going to be among men, humping with your fellow marines in harms way. But it won't be a big huge radio. They are pretty light and compact compared to what we had 20 years ago. You will be okay. Don't be a hero, do your job, remember your training and things will work out.
Good luck.

LOL!!! He said it. You are going to be following behind the platoon commander, and calling for arty! Have to mess with ya bro! You might stand a chance at being in a cushy room somewhere on base. Semper Fi!

Unless it's changed since I was in, you will be doing exactly that.
