What if this non believer is a very good person? Should this good person suffer the same eternal damnation as a rapist or a killer?

Since none of us is God how dare anyone make His decisions for Him. If you don't believe in God. How come Hell worries you? Sorry to answer your question with questions but this is not at all cut and dried.

Actually in my religion we suffer for the bad deeds we do to the extent that we do them - this is called Karma.

So you as a non-believer won't go to hell, if you didn't do anything wrong. However, you are currently not enligtened (I must confess neither am I). So if you are not enlightened, that means there is some ignorance or false knowledge that you have. This prevents you from realizing your full potential. So through spirituality you will become more enlightened and eventually you will find a heaven that is better and higher than temporary pleasures of the world. And what's better is that you will experience this state of heaven directly and while you are alive in this life itself. Heaven/Enlightenment is a higher state of mind.

People who are rapists are slaves to their animals passions. They are not completely free, just like drug addicts. This makes them do bad things and they become degraded and reviled. There state of mind is bad and they suffer even in life - this is what is called as hell.

So the truth is that everyone gets their just desserts. The sun shines on the whole earth - it doesn't favour any one religion - so that view of selective discrimination on the part of God is entirely misplaced and wrong.

If you're refering to Christianity; the answer is in the bible:

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

John 3:18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

John 3:3 I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.

John 3:5-7 I tell you the truth, no-one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.'

I guess they just want to? So U think Sins are different, in whose Judgment, Urs??? God can't live with Any Sin, so what's the difference between Sins??? Are U trying in Arrogance to say that Ur sin (lets say it's Masturbation) is Better than someone who Lies??? Bible says (& it's True) that: "All have Sinned & come short of the Glory of God." But here's the "Kicker" Sin is Not the Issue!!! Only whether or not U Believe in Christ!!! Believe & gain Heaven, No Belief, No Heaven, just Hell!!! So U see, I guess since it's their Choice, they just must Want to go to Hell!!! John

How do we even know that this afterlife is all it's told to be? How do you know that when we die, we won't just reach a nirvana-like state? What if the people who could not reach paradise just went to an empty place, remained dead, or stayed on Earth? I only use the terms Heaven and Hell to describe a better place and a place where paradise is not achieved.

no i think the lord looks at the heart of the person not the religion they belong to.and i don;t believe in some kind of hell fire.that is something that the churches, have started to scare people into believing their way of thinking.what kind of god will just look at someone and say burn baby burn.that just does;nt make any sense.you will be judged on how you live your life.and how you treated others.and either death or life is what you will be given if god see,s fit.

What religion are talking about? Christianity?

Those who never know God can never exist in His presence in Paradise. They are NOT, however, tortured in Hell in the same fashion that rapists and killers are. However, if someone wills to deny God, they are seen as willing to deny the existence of righteousness in the world and are burned accordingly as the sinners they are.

A non-believer would not want to spend eternity with God in heaven. If they have rejected God all their life why would they want to be with him in heaven. Hell is a place where God chooses not to be, but without God there is nothing good just pain and sadness. No-one deserves to go to hell more than someone else, a murderer does not deserve to go to hell more than anyone else, everyone has sinned atleast once in their life and God sees all sin as equally bad.

You are denying God (The Holy Father) in their eyes, so essentially it'd be like telling your parents "you guys aren't my parents, you cannot tell me what to do or how to live, so but out and leave me alone. Oh by the way, can I have a place to live?"

Thats essentially what you're doing in God's eyes (by some religion's estimations).

Christians believe you must accept Jesus and God. Jews believe you must accept God and you're still waiting for Jesus. Muslims follow Mohammed (Allah and God are the same being, shocker I know) the prophet and also believe in Jesus.

Its not baptists vs. methodists, they are still christians or the same religion.

I am a man of faith, not religion. I dont need someone to tell me the meaning of what I read.

I am not a believer of Christianity. It doesn't mean I have to go to heaven or hell. I am not Hindu. It doesn't mean I am not allowed to reincarnate. I don't believe in hell, heaven, or reincarnation. Thus, I won't go to heaven or hell or reincarnate. However, I have respect for these idealogies though I don't believe in either. I am a believer of Sikhism which is pretty vague about the afterlife and gives room for personal interpretations. Just because 98% of the world doesn't follow Sikhism doesn't mean they will not have an afterlife.
