Yes.............
But there are some in society that need to die for the evils they have committed upon others.
And yes, to answer my lunatic left Sociology Professor in college..... I will gladly be the one that pulls the switch.
Better yet, let me in a room with that John Couey, child raping and murdering punk. I will beat him to death with a bat. You can sell tickets on Pay Per View.
Oh.......... and the bible does say "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth".

The law is acknowledged as coming from God(The Ten Commandments).
However, even Jesus pointed out there is difference in the the Laws of Man and God.
As to how I feel about the Death Penalty, it should be reserved for those who commit brutal and deliberate murders.

Even if God were acknowledged in US law (which is prevented by the seperation of church and state) The commandment is Thou shall not murder. The bible also contains Hamurabi's code (eye for and eye and a life for a life etc.) It also says that someone should be stoned to death for planting different crops side by side and burned to death for wearing garments of different thread.
The bible encourages the death penalty in many cases, and discourages only murder.
Maybe you should try reading the entire thing.

You can find almost anything in the Bible.
It also says an eye for an eye and a life for a life.
The judge is fulfilling his duty to uphold the law.
He did not seek the death penalty.
God does not punish people on this Earth, so you must also obey man's law.

Death penalty was handed out over and over again in the old testament. In the new testament, Jesus restrained the crowd from stoning the adulteress, and said, "You who are without sin, cast the first stone." Leaves you pretty confused, doesn't it?

see the link...the intent is
THOU SHALL NOT MURDER.
A judge issues a death sentence to be carried out;
the court assigned staff does so.
Murder is defined as "unlawfully killing a person ".

Welcome to reality, where legal is not always moral.
But that is not why I oppose the death penalty. I do not believe a book of fables should dictate laws, but think that extending the punishment instead of killing is most effective.
