ID's for illegals?

Last week the state of New York announced a plan that would provide a type of license to illegal immigrants. A Minnesota state senator also stated that he was in favor of providing worker ID cards to illegal immigrants. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff has said that he opposes giving IDs to illegal immigrants, but there is no federal law that prevents it. New York Governor Eliot Spitzer says that the new IDs will bring undocumented immigrants into society and help lower auto insurance rates. What do you think?

Haha... I wasn't trying to be politically correct by using the term undocumented immigrant. In fact, it's an excerpt from an article I read. I strongly oppose this plan!

And if you read closely it says Eliot Spitzer referring to them as "undocumented immigrants"

I say we tag them like wild life and send them back to mexico, when they cross the border INS gets the notice and gets them and sends them back to mexico, preferably the end furthest away from America. Illegals are law breakers its that simple, they don't deserve sympathy. My favorite is "You split up families when you send illegals home, heres an idea... take your family with you...

When the Geico Gecko comes on National TV and says he will lower my rates if we give illegals drivers licenses I'll believe it. Until that time I will have to believe that Spitzer is an idiot that has no idea of what he is talking about.

Has anyone asked the insurance companies if they will insure illegals? at what price? Has anyone asked the illegals if they would buy it?

Does anyone really believe that somehow, by magic, illegals will become law abiding citizens and will give up their evil ways if we give them a drivers license?

Chertoff is an idiot if he thinks there is no federal law against it. How about the immigration reform and control act of 1986?
It is against Federal Law to transport an illegal alien. By giving them a drivers license thy are in effect, transporting an illegal alien (themselves).

Common sense should apply here. If someone is in the country illegally you call the proper authorities and have them removed. You don't give them a drivers license so they can blend in with the rest of society.

Eliot Spitzer is an idiot. He claims that the drivers license will have identification indicating that it is valid only in New York. However, both TSA and DHS have stated that since a drivers license is a valid form of identification for use in boarding aircraft, illegal aliens could use it to fly. Sheriff Departments throughout New York state oppose it because illegals could use the license to purchase firearms. What does a drivers license do? Nothing. The statistics indicate that most illegal aliens are uninsured. What does giving them a license mean? It means that they'll only be charged with driving without insurance when then plow into your car instead of both "driving without insurance" and "driving without a license." The sad thing it that politicians are going to give these criminal parasites rights, privileges and amnesty without regard to the desires of the citizens of this country.

To the apologists who say illegals are trying to become legal. They've commited a crime. Trying to unmake the crime is nonsense. I'd like to steal instead of work. I'd like see it made legal. Think that will happen?

The ONLY advantage to NY for giving illegals drivers licenses would be to get the votes that they would give to Spitzer to keep him Governor (because HE gave them the chance), and Hillary (because she backed it) if they could get away with voting in national elections. Don't forget, ANYONE who gets a license can also register to vote. ANYONE over 18.

By the way... where would you expect them to the the REQUIRED Social Security Card that allows them to GET the licenses?

i think its wrong. I also think it's wrong that they can obtain credit cards w/o social security numbers thus no info on their past credit history, meanwhile, i, with no cradit (not bad, just none), cant get crap. What good will these IDs do? A) the illegals will just have something else the taxpayers pay for to ignore, and B) it will just give them one more thing to falsify. What will the IDs say? Hi! I broke into your state, but i am available to steal jobs from taxpayers and drive 35 mph in the wrong lane in your country. Dont hate me, hire me! maybe if they were using them to ID them easier for INS or ICE, but do we want to pay for that too? Im paying enough of their medical, grocery, child care, and section 8 payments. Will the IDs be in spanish or english?

Bringing 'undocumented' immigrants into society is not desireable - removing them from the country is. Giving them IDs therefor doesn't make any kind of sense. Branding them on the forehead and informing them that if they're caught again they'll be summarily executed would make more sense - though, clearly, that'd be cruel and unsusual, so, like giving them ID cards, shouldn't even be considered.

Hellooo!!! There's no "federal law that prevents it"??

I suppose there's no federal law that prevents giving IDs cards to Martians either. Does that mean we should do it if they landed on Earth tomorrow?

I suppose there's also no federal law that prevents us from buying illegal aliens a Cadillac Escalade either...does that mean we should do it?

Its a crock. Its not going to help anything but illegals stay here. Saying, "you are not allowed here", and then turning around to say, "hey, while you're not supposed to be here, why don't you use our roads, hospitals, and government services that our citizens paid for" is just ridiculous. ID's don't make people legal, or make them love this country, or make them want to assimilate. BAD IDEA!
