my other 2 cats (both about 1 1/2 yrs old) get up & eat & use the litter box & play a few times each for every time my [fat] older (3 1/2 -4 yr old) cat does.

is he just lazy? or is it normal for them to sleep longer as they get older?

i wake him up for a while every day to play with his laser (the ONLY thing he'll play with)

they're all on weight management food, but he's still portly. the other two are very trim.

I think it's normal. I read somewhere once where, if the temperature was sufficiently warm, cats can and will sleep 23 and 1/2 of every 24 hours....

I know as my cats get older, they are less inclined to play. Also, some cats are naturally more playful and others, lazier. If you are worried that your older cat is getting a weight problem, maybe you will have to "trick" him into playing by dangling string in front of him, or throwing those catnip mice in front of his nose, or doing something else to engage him.

If you are really worried about him, though, go ahead and take him to the vet. Your peace of mind is worth the time and expense of the appointment.

Hope this helps.

A 3 1/2 - 4yr old cat isn't old. It sounds like the reason he lazes around all day, is that he's too fat to keep up with the "youngsters"! Maybe, you should put all of them on a "healthy weight" cat food, and YOU play with him for awhile everyday, til he loses some of his extra weight. Most cats will sleep off/on all day, but they have their play times, too. Try playing w/him and see if that "wakes" him up. Or, you could ask your vet to check him over, to see if he has a thyroid problem, which could cause him to be tired all the time. Good luck w/whatever you try.

It depends upon how I think while I stand up. Most occasions I love to stand up early and begin my day that approach by the point the night comes I have the whole lot performed then I can laze round.

a cat will pretty much set his/her own agenda and do just precisley what they feel like doing...that sounds pretty normal.
