So, I'm comparing two digital cameras. The only difference between the two is that one is 8 megapixels and the other is 10.1 megapixels. At that resolution, is this really a significant difference. The camera is for semi-pro level work, as well as family photos; I'm not taking pictures for posters or anything that big....

No, the difference in image sizes are going to be negligible between the two. And megapixels don't make clearer images, they make bigger images, and from 8mp to 10mp there's not much of a difference in size.

Do make sure whichever you pick will suit all of your needs. If you have a pro shop nearby go pick the brain of a sales person.

Nope, it's not a significant difference. The difference at any normal print size from 13" x 19" or smaller will not be noticeable.

Between these two cameras, you should instead compare other features like image stabilization effectiveness, zoom range, performance at higher ISOs, ergonomics, size of LCD, menu system, etc. But the megapixel difference between 8 and 10 mp is meaningless.

We could give you a better answer if you tell us the model numbers. If you have plenty of light, the ten megapixel one will give an image with more detail. In low light, you might be better off with the eight megapixel.

No, it doesn't make a difference. If you opt for the 10.1 megapixels, you have more cropping room, but they are both very nice size images to work with.

if it's for semi-pro level work, I'd get the one with Higher mega pixels just because of the chance you'll have to crop, enlarge, edit, print, etc your images.
