boys are very hard to potty train
he may just not be ready
here are some of the signs that children are ready for potty training
Sign 1: he can go a few hours without needing his diaper changed. He shows awareness that he needs to empty his bowels (poo). For example, he goes quiet, or has a studied expression.
Sign 2: he is able to pull up, and pull down his pants
Sign 3: he can focus on an activity for at least 5 minutes. For instance, if he is on your lap and you're reading him a story, he will sit quietly, listen and be absorbed in the storytelling.
Sign 4: he understands the words that will be used in potty training such as pee, poo, dry, wet, and wipe.
Sign 5: he understands simple instructions such as "pick up the ball and put it in the toy box".
Sign 6: he has no emotional stresses such as a new baby brother or a new home.
Sign 7: he's beginning to shows signs of independence and likes imitating people's actions.
If your son shows all the above signs then he is ready for potty training.
he will talk and use the potty when he is ready
not when you want him to be

Hello. I am experiencing the same problem as you with my 24 month old son not talking. I would urge you to see a doctor and get a referral to a specialist if necessary as there may be a cause for concern. My paediatrician advised me that a child of two years should have a vocabulary of about 50 words and should be able to put two words together as a sentence. My son talks gibberish and we were worried so have had him checked out. Don't ever assume that things will get better or that because he is a boy he might not talk until a later age. It is better to know that everything is okay and if it is not then get some early intervention.
I have delayed potty training my son for this very reason. Communication difficulties will prevent learning in so many areas. I don't yet know why he isn't talking but hopefully we can sort it out with testing which will happen soon. Don't delay as sometimes you have to wait a long time to see doctors or access services and it is better to get problems sorted out quickly.
I hope it all works out for you. All the best.

My daughter is 2 1/2 and we're having difficulty with potty training but she talks a lot. I would take him to the doctor's to make sure his speech is okay. My daughter makes full sentences. She does say no when I ask her if she has to go. Good luck!

you either need to spend more time with him teaching him to talk first, or see a specialist and find out why a 2 and a half year old kid doesnt talk.....you cant potty train him until he can effectively communicate with you first, maybe hes just a little behind others his age, which would also make him a little slower to potty train.

Take him to the doctor and see if his speech development is ok. If hes not talking alot, he may need speech therapy which there is nothing wrong with that. There are alot of kids who need speech therapy, you will see a big difference in no time. Ive known several toddlers who had to go through this and it really helped them. Im sure your doctor could reccommend a speech therapist if thats the route you need to go.

You could tell him what things are when he points to them and when he whines for something do not give it to him until he attempts to say it. If he wont listen to you maybe you can get a video like Baby Einstien or Big Bear to learn or say words. He may learn better by an animal type thing teaching him.

children develop at different ages. Just like a kid can walk at ten months and some...not until the age of 2 like my sister! Dont worry just because you see other kids are at different levels. Theres nothing wrong with your littleone. Do interact with them constantly tho (im sure you are). One day - he'll just get on that potty. The more frustrated you are - the more he;ll sense it. Dont force it. Relax and it;ll happen. x

I hear that boys are slower learners than girls. My son is 16 months and still hasn't said his first word. My 3 year old daughter said a lot more at 16 months than my son. In his own time, he will talk. And don't automatically assume there is something wrong with him (autism) because that isn't always the case.

Does he have an older brother or sister? Usually that will cause the child - to not have to talk, because someone is always answering for him. If there is, or you are answering, stop now.... My youngest ended up in speech therapy for a couple years.
