In some cases the two terms may be considered synonymous.

But if I was to try to make a distinction, I would say that a sexual assault would be more of an attack in nature. Where a molestation would be more like unwanted sexual touching with a person, or any attempt to engage in any sexual act with a minor child.

I believe that it is the same thing. The usually call it molested when they are referring to children. One of the definitions of molest is to assault.

i've got faith it relies upon on age. You sexually attack an grownup somebody over 18, yet you sexually moleste a toddler somebody under 18. people have a tendency to apply the words interchangeably while teenage ladies are sexually molested. I dunno this would be all incorrect.

Sexual assault is a more general term. It can include molestation as well as more aggressive or violent sexual behavior, such as an attack.

Molestation does not include such violent behavior.
