Not of This World Returns: I don't think by "refreshed" it means he was thirsty. Do you?

William: I'll have to refer you to Phil's answer (below yours).

Fireball: Are you saying he was setting an example by pretending to be tired? Or like most other things you write, is this just from your imagination?

ChuckB: what can I say? I have thoughts.

To all those who say it was just an example, there is one little problem... that is not what it says.

Averell: KJV (yours is similar enough to get the point across anyway).

You do not understand the text. It never says he was tired. It says that he rested. The word used for rested does not imply tiredness it means he refrained from doing more.

This defense that is getting thrown around, that God was not tired but rested as in refrained doesn't work as an answer given that the Asker is referencing not Genesis but Exodus 31:17 - God rested AND WAS REFRESHED. How can you be refreshed if you aren't tired?

Also, after Adam and Even sin, God can't find them in the garden.

Also, Judges 1:19 says even though God was on the Hebrew side they could not defeat the plains people because they had chariots of iron.

Truly, a literal reading of this story yields a very curious sort of omnipotent God.

He's also ambivalent.

This is clearly an example of how what is written in the bible was written by people with agendas. In this case the agenda probably belonged to the government at the time and they needed to set up a culture in society that takes a day off. It was probably because people were working too hard and dying off too early. They needed some excuse to make people take a day off from making money that people would actually obey. If in doubt how to make people blindly follow rules, turn to religion.

You'll find similar things in Islam. They are told to wash their hands and feet before they prey. This was because there were too many people dying from disease so they figured if they made the people think it was a religious necessity to wash your hands then people would actually do it and they could reduce the deaths from disease.

Same reason They have to bury their dead within 24 hours. The people think that it's God's will but really it was some savvy guy who decided to make up that it was God's command because he worked out that dead bodies spread disease when they start to rot and they didn't have refrigerators yet.

Skeptic, since when do you need to be tired to have a rest?
Once upon a time we had a 15 minute morning tea break but I think Atheists eroded that small pleasure for the rest of us.

Why do you assume He was tired, just because He rested? Perhaps it was to set us an example, that we should regularly cease our labors and rest.

By the way, I would warn you skeptics about the danger of your skepticism. It is one thing to ask questions, as long as you are seriously looking for answers. The danger comes in foolishly setting yourself up as an opponent to the God who created you. Someday, your words will come back to bite you!

"But I say unto you, that every idle word that man shall speak, they shall give account for in the day of judgment. For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned." Matthew 12:36,37

You've been warned!

It does not mean God was tired. He was setting an example and a precedent. Six days wilt thou labor, but on the seventh day thou shall rest and renew thyself.

Almighty God was/is a GOOD father. He teaches by example, not by mere words.

He did not get tired. The Sabbath was made for man. It is an eternal sign between God and man to commemorate creation and for man to honor the creator. Read Exodus 20

Once the Heavens and the earth were created there was really nothing left to do so He decided to just chill out and wait for his creations to start interesting Him.

BOYCOTT
Did it say he rested because he was TIRED? No it did not.
I just don't appreciate questions which appear reasonable then, once I get there, I find some some stupid cheery picked distortion.
