I had people tell me the same thing. Apparently bumpers are a very "american" thing to do and now its coming out they're dangerous, etc.

That said, all three of my kids used bumpers. As soon as they started fooling around with them, I took them out. My oldest started using them as a step stool to climb out of the crib around 10 months, so out they went. My second child would always get an arm tangled in them and once even his head - and this was at 4 months! So out they went. My third child had them in until she left her crib at age 2. She never bothered with them.

If you decide not to use them, don't worry about your daughter bumping her head on the bars of the crib - by simply rolling over she is not going to hit them hard enough, if at all. The way kids roll she'd be more likely to hit her arm or back. She'll be fine.

Hope this helps!

I have never used bumper pads. Pretty soon, your 5 month old will be getting plenty of bumps and bruises as she learns to crawl and walk. Dont' worry about it. Unless your baby is a thrasher, you should be fine without any bumpers.

No they do no longer seem to be secure. there is the prospect of babies getting trapped in them and strangling themselves or smothering themselves. It additionally will boost the prospect of sids through fact it restrict airflow interior the crib permitting babies to breath recirculated air. nevertheless crib instruments are lovable they seem to be a waste of money. it extremely is cautioned that no longer something be interior the crib different then the child. Your no longer even meant to apply the blanket that includes the crib set (you may purchase sleep sacks that the child wears or use a swaddling blanket to maintain them heat). the only ingredient you ought to use out of the crib set is the equipped sheet, so your greater appropriate off saving some funds and in basic terms buying a equipped sheet via itself.

Bumper pads sounds like a good idea, but first check with your child's pediatrician.

I used bumper pads and never had any problems with them. You know how your daughter sleeps and what's best for her.

Unless you have her crib propped at a 45 degree angle she isn't going to hit hard enough to get a concussion or anything. If she is asleep she probably won't even wake up.
