...to heaven because you are a son of Abraham?

I knew a Jew once (adopted too) who thought he was going to heaven no matter what because he was a Jew. No matter if he had a foul mouth and was a druggie, that is sincerely what he thought. I know he was sincerely wrong, but where did he get those ideas.

I also knew a Jew who told me what he was taught in his schools about Christians....and it was mostly not true.

Just serious answers and please leave your hate at home. Thank you.

"many rabbis will tell you that to worry about the afterlife will distract you from doing good in the here-and-now, and let G-D worry about it." Why were the prophets crying out "Repent!" if you just do the best that you can and don't worry about it, there is something waaaaay too convienent about this theology.

JP thank you for explaining that to me. But it just breaks my heart. May the Lord gather up His chicks and revive Israel.

Gamla - you speak so casually, it doesn't have to be so. The Messiah has provided a way for you to be reconciled with God the Father. PLEASE, pray and read the New Testament see how Daniel's, Isaiah's, Jeremiah's propechies have been fulfilled in Y'shua.

The last 2000 years have been horrible for the Jews. They will continue to be targets from all sides, it is prophesied.

In 70 AD the temple was destroyed and Satan raised up that awful religion to be a constant thorn on Israel side.......these are times of repentance.

A Jew can only get to Heaven if he accepts Jesus, repents for his sins, prays and follows the ten commandments. I read Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers and i don't recall seeing where it says all Jews go to Heaven....

Jews do not believe in Hell as a place of eternal torture. Such a concept is immoral and evil.

However, they do believe in a place of purification. It is said that no one who has ever lived is so evil as to abide even a full year in that place -- different sects place the limit as 11 months or 365 days.

After this period of purification, Jews believe that the soul's energy moves on to whatever else remains of the after life.

You must remember that Jews don't have much of a concept of the afterlife. Different groups disagree if the World to Come is the afterlife or if it is something that will happen on this world. The important concept of Judaism is to walk with The LORD here and now, since we cannot see or prove what will happen after we die. Indeed, many rabbis will tell you that to worry about the afterlife will distract you from doing good in the here-and-now, and let G-D worry about it.

-------------

I'm not saying I personally believe anything. I'm an atheist. But I have been studying Judaism for years now, and what I have said above has been validated by some of the other Jews on the list.

As for The LORD, that term simply refers to one aspect of G-D. Contrary to Christian usage, it does not refer to Jesus in Judaism.

-----------------

When the prophets cried out, "Repent," you will notice that the people were NOT doing their best, and had in fact turned their backs yet again entirely on G-D.

It's an ongoing theme in the OT, I'm sure if you've read it you've noticed that.

------------

You will never convince a well-studied Jew that Jesus is the messiah because Jesus failed to fulfill the Messianic Prophecies.

The failures are well documented at http://www.jewsforjudaism.org/ Start with the FAQ, it's short and simple and shows five or six things the Messiah must do, which have never been done to date by ANYONE, Jesus included.

Ackthp. The FAQ is the complex one. Start here: http://www.jewsforjudaism.org/jews-jesus/jews-jesus-index.html

Well honestly they think that Jesus hasn't come yet. I know exactly what you are talking about. There is a religion that is actually going around and some christians say this too that Jews will be in heaven that they will get a second chance to I guess you'd say redeem themselves. So a lot of people think that Abraham's bossom is open and they are waiting there. When most Christians know that, that can't be because the word simply proves it over and over again you shall only be saved but through the father, etc. The word talks about guarding your heart, and false teachers too. This has actually been going around for a long long time. There are ministers who are well known who believe this.

Even if you do look through old testament and new there are lots of types and shadows of this

Judaism does not teach anything about heaven and hell. In fact, Judaism is very vague about the afterlife. I don't have any texts readily available, but as far as I know, the scriptures simply say that those who do good deeds will be rewarded after death and that when the messiah comes, the dead will be resurrected.
As for a Jew getting into a heaven, this would imply that Christian beliefs are accurate, since they deal with heaven and hell. All Christians that I have spoken to say that Christianity teaches that one must accept Jesus as one's savior to get into heaven. Judaism does not accept this belief, so logic would indicate that Jews don't go to heaven from a Christian theological perspective. However, this does not take the whole "God's chosen people" thing into account, not to mention that Jesus, himself was a Jew.

In all honesty I think that I am probably going to hell when I die.

I do not think I merit going straight to what you call heaven.

Then again the Jewish understanding of heaven and hell are so marketability different that you really cannot compare the two.

if you want to understand why read what J.P. wrote. He hit the nail on the head.

--edit--

I can speak casually because I do not fear it. I do not fear it because I have the fundamental understanding that God is good and anything that happens to me is for the best. God would not allow me to suffer unless it was for the good.

If I were to go to "hell" it would be because my soul would need it.

when you will be able to see that you will understand why you do not need a savior.

Well, the Bible does state that the Jews are God's chosen people and are destined for the Kingdom of Heaven. Some believe that being Jewish is an automatic ticket to heaven, just like some believe that suicide is an automatic ticket to hell. Some do, some don't. It's a matter of how you interpret the Biblical text.

Yes, because prophet Isaiah says that All Israel will have a share in the world to come. Christian responses to this question is nothing but nonsense. Christians are pagans and they will not have a share in either the resurrection or the world to come, because their idolatrous nature.

I know you have previously been given the specific Jewish answer from the Hebrew Bible on the differences in these concepts before. You don't ask these questions to get a genuine answer but in order to use this to gather Jews to missionize.

If you were genuinely interested in learning about the differences between Judaism and Christianity you would have read the answers Jews have given in your presence on prior occasions.

I have respect for the right of other human beings to choose their own path and belief. I do not have respect for all behaviors,

I try to impart to my child that if we hope and expect others to respect us, to honor our right to worship God in the manner we choose, then we should be able and willing to reciprocate that same level of respect to the rights of others.

Example is the best teacher. In Judaism, we see our role as living in Tikkun Olam ( repair of the world) this means we are partners with God and our fellow man to try to fix the wrongs of the world while we enjoy the fruits and blessings of it. In so doing, we also enable our children to witness us working side by side with others whose beliefs may differ.

I'm rather known for saying in Religion chat rooms in Yahoo over the years the following:
I raise my child as my parents raised me, to be respectful and tolerant of the right of individuals and groups to have their own unadulterated culture, customs and beliefs. My tolerance extends to the point where the expression of those beliefs violate certain standards of behaviors: If they attempt to violate another’s civil rights, seek to incite harm to anyone, willfully deceive another or misrepresent the beliefs of others then my tolerance ceases.

As you already knew, Judaism doesn't have the Christian concept of an eternal torture chamber/underworld of hell. It is a different concept of punishment for wrongdoing in the afterworld in Judaism. The steps of Teshuvah or return, required for repentance and atonement are outlined also at the link below, that I know you've seen before.
