I'm just curious. We're paying for our own event. I'm curious if there are many others in our shoes or are alot of people getting money from their parents or other relatives to pay for all or part of their wedding.

Paying for it ourselves.

My fiance and I will be paying for our wedding. Our folks might help a bit, but we're footing most of the bill.

I think that it depends on the situation. Eric and I have been living together for over two years, he's 26 and I'm 29. When you're fresh out of college or something, I can see the bride's parents paying for it, but we're a working class little family who's already established ourselves as independent. I would NEVER ask my parents to pay for our wedding.

Good luck!

Tradition used to be that the woman's parents paid for the wedding, sometimes the grooms parents paid for the bar supplies, or chipped in for the cost. Nowdays, it costs so much for a wedding that couples pay for the whole thing themselves. In my day there was no question that the woman's partents pay for the wedding. No other relatives were ever included in that part of the wedding.

My parents paid for the dinner and my husbands parents paid for the alcohol which was a good thing because they are all alcoholics. LOL. it was a great help.
If I could do it all again I would have eloped used the money for the down payment of a house. Bought the house 1.5 years after marriage. You put all that money out for a big drunk you get not much back in return trust me. Guests don't give much, we even had 2 bounced cheques. we got so ripped off by our wedding caterer. I was very disappointed how much the wedding cost and so cheaply done. I would definitely do it over again in a different manner.

My parents paid for the reception hall and my wedding dress. Which is great because We're having a large wedding (i have a large family so i have no choice) and without their help, we wouldn't be able to invite a lot of our friends. We have to come up with everything else which hasn't turned out too bad. Good luck!

Well I have not recieved money from my parents for the wedding though mum offered.
When I was about 16 I told mum to start saving for my wedding, but now that I am here (23) we are trying to do everything ourselves on a budget. And whatever little we can't manage we will get her to help with.
To tell you the truth she seemed disappointed that we refused her help (for now).

My parents paid for everything. I come from a pretty traditional area where all of my friends parents paid for their weddings, regardless of their age. The only instance was where the groom's parents had more money and wanted to pay or it was a second wedding and the parents refused to pay for another one.

My fiance and I will be paying a good deal for the wedding that my parents want. Originally we wanted a small destination wedding with just close family and friends, but my parents insisted on throwing a large traditional Italian wedding. Unfortunately, they will not pay for everything....causing my fiance's parents and us to be in a very difficult situation. The total wedding budget is typically (based on my sister's weddings) $30-35,000. We will probably shell out close to $10K on rings, honeymoon, our friends that attend the reception, and other misc. expenses. Ain't that grand!?!?!

It use to be parents paid for everything, but now with the average age of a bride - 25 and groom - 27 there tends to be more couples paying for the wedding completely themselves or they get a little help from mom and dad. I rarely hear people saying their parents paid for everything anymore.

Congrats and best of luck!

I was very lucky and blessed that my parents wanted to pay for our wedding - even though I was 29 and living on my own when I got married. Normally, when a woman gets married later, the parents aren't as eager to pay..... :)

As far as I know we're paying for it all ourselves. Not sure if anyone was planning on helping yet, we don't expect it anyways. They'll be doing a lot to help us with the planning and everything so I'm happy with that. If they do give us any money we'll save it.
