As it says in Genesis 1? Or did he create woman much later from Adam's rib, as it says in Genesis 2.

That is the classic inconsistency in the bible. There are two creation stories and one contradicts the other. One says man and woman were created together and the other says man was created first, then he got to name animals, and then woman was created while the man slept. Two different stories coming from the same bible.

To those who say that the first part is the overview, where do you get this information. What passage in the bible says that Genesis 1 is only an overview and should not be taken literally?

To those who say to not judge the bible, you are just saying in order to understand the bible you must stop thinking.

No, God created Adam first and when Adam got busy naming all the animals it was then that God put a deep sleep over Adam and removed one of his ribs and made Woman - Eve.

I don't take the Bible literally. I believe it's an allegory, and a way for us to comprehend God's story. I'm bouncing in between my beliefs about how humans came to existence, but I believe in some sort of God-planned evolution. Therefore, I can't say whether or not man or woman came at the same time because I don't think it was an instantaneous creation. Believe whatever gets ya through the day. =)

Genesis 1 is more of an overview of the beginning of the earth and what he created. Genesis 2 goes more into detail about things. and that isn't contradicting at all.

hope that helps. I would go in more detail but hey i figure its understandable at that.

Brillig - How can nothing produce anything but nothing? People like you say that the likelihood of God's existence is equal to that of a fairy, unicorn, etc., but how does that explain definitively that not only God doesn't exist but that He didn't create the heavens and the earth?

Sure, it appeals to human logic because it SOUNDS ridiculously unbelievable and fairytale-like to those like you who don't believe in God , but what does whether something sounds ridiculous or not prove about whether it's true? Truth doesn't stop at the edge of human understanding, does it?

the full perception in creationism has no longer something to do with a genie. till you get that inadequate and belligerent theory out of your head, any answer I provide would be meaningless. human beings save telling me, a Christian, that i might desire to boost my suggestions and be open to new ideals. I surely have been for the previous ten years and that i'm extra firmly grounded in my faith than ever. i replace right into a skeptic till i began out questioning the words of the preachers and getting to know their statements for myself. I opened my suggestions. you're able to do the comparable. in case you settle on which you're able to this, "Case for a author" is an spectacular beginning component. So is "Privileged Planet."

Genesis 1...Adam and Lilith created together (she left)
Genesis 2...Eve from Adams rib

I don't believe either one. I just find the story of Lilith facinating.
