Private school tuition through kindergarten is considered child care and allowable for child care credit.

Only if the purpose of their attending is to allow the parent (or both parents, if both are in the home) to work. Then it would most likely qualify for a child care tax credit for part of the amount.

If it's just a short time each session, and the parent isn't working during that time, then no you can't claim it.

You would be allowed to claim 20% up to $3,000 for this childcare expense. However, keep in mind, the IRS will not allow you a tax credit once your child gets into kindergarten (regardless if private school)..

You can get a credit of 20% of up to $3,000 of it. This is a regular credit, not a refundable credit like EIC. So if you pay in tax, it can be lowered or eliminated., but you will not get back more than you paid in.
