So I want to do a save the date magnet for our wedding. My finace and I took a great picture of ourselves and I got the magnets from Office Depot. Here's the thing...I ran it by a friend of mine and she laughed and said it was a redneck idea. I know it's not her wedding, and I'm gonna do them anyway, but just wanted to see if other people thought the same as my friend.

magnet. Period. Another good option if magnets are out of budget is to have stickers printed up for people to put in their date planners or calendars. You can also pick up a generic magnet that could be used after the wedding but hints at the theme. For instance with a garden wedding get some of those cheap flower magnets and tie a tag with wedding info. You are sending out the STD's months before hand. How many people are going to be able to keep up with a postcard for months? busy lives. magnets are easy to keep up with and can be placed on the fridge' where people tend to go everyday so they are sure to actually save the date. Lost postcards are nearly so effective.

Just received one of those from a couple whose wedding I'm performing. I was very impressed. Looked nice. And the wedding is a high class wedding.

I'm a man, and I know I don't get it. I read a lot on these forums, and you brides stress out a lot over what everyone will think. Not saying it's bad, just don't go overboard.

I did a wedding for one couple, and I felt so bad for the bride. She was keeping her wedding simple and the expenses down. She sat at my kitchen table and told me that her friends at work made her feel awful saying "your doing that?" about her ideas for her wedding.

Now why did they do that? Did they think they were being helpful? Such criticism is usually a reflection on ourselves than the other person. So take it in stride, dear. Once your friend sees the outcome, she may have a different opinion.

It is not a redneck thing. I have been to a few weddings that were in the 100,000 dollar range and the couples used magnets for save the date. I suspect this friend doesn't have any wedding experience. People will respect your magnet idea. Go for it.

I dont think so...

I think its a cute idea and its an easy way for guests to put up the save the date... My save the dates were actual cards and most people still put them up on the fridge! So why not do a magnent? I think its a cute idea.... not redneck. But some people tell me I'm a little redneck sometimes, so who knows! lol

Good luck and congrats!

My fiance and I are doing the traditional save the date cards and then putting a magnetic strip on the back, so in essence they're save the date magnets. I think it's a cute idea and will be a nice reminder of your plans. And you're exactly right... it's YOUR wedding :)

I LOVE the idea of doing magnets for a save the date, and it is in NO WAY "redneck", as your friend put it. I think it is a very cute idea. If I received one in the mail I would gladly put it on my fridge, I would have a better chance of keeping track of it and remembering than a piece of paper. Ignore her comment and move forward with the idea. :)

P.S. Congrats!!

I think it's totally cute- don't listen to the redneck hater (haha- just kidding) Do it if you want...that's my motto- you're only going to get married once, and I've thrown all caution to the wind.
THANK YOU btw, for the sweet comment on my wedding location in the question I asked!!! I love the location too- it's gorgeous, esp. at night with all the twinkle lights...I'm getting married there on SATURDAY!!
Good Luck with all your wedding planning! Remember- do what you wish- listen to others advice when they give it, but it doesn't mean you have to do it. Cheers!

How is it "redneck"? I don't agree with her at all. Many people choose to do save the date magnets. Good for you sticking to what you want and not being swayed by your friend's rather rude opinion.

It is not redneck! It is actually very "in" right now and some people are spending tons on them. Most every website I view has them and some are quite expensive. Here is website you can show her that carries a great line of them. They also have ones that you can peel a sticker off for people to put in their calendars.

Your friend is a jerk.

I think save the dates are an EXCELLENT idea, especially if most of the guests are out of town or your wedding location is in a "hot spot" for weddings.
