I woke up yesterday with this swelling. I could not breathe through my mouth although I could still breathe through my nose. I immediately went to the emergency room. They suspected an allergic reaction. Treatment rendered was epinephrine spray and this reduced the size about 2/3. I was also given a steriod shot (medrol). I just did blood work for a full series of possible allergens...any thoughts???

Something you ate or inhaled through your mouth could have caused the reaction. Once you get the results of the tests then you can determine how to manage.

Sounds like an allergy to me . Try to think back about what you ate the night of your reaction. Shellfish and peanuts are a common serious allergen. You should be sure to see an allergist and be instructed on the use of an Epi-pen so if this happens again, you will get immediate help before your airway closes. Subsequent exposures to what ever caused your reaction usually come on more quickly and severely, so it is important that you are a good detective and figure this out.

well if your problem went away temporarily then it may just be an allergic reaction, i get them a lot and if they find you are allergic to everday things you come into contact with you should definately get meds for it. they have saved my life twice now.
