He's not even 2 years old yet. Does he have the co-ordination to drink from a cup and not spill? My son doesn't.
I can't imagine what the damage could be to a child drinking out of sippy cup during the day and not in a crib.

My daughter was weened off her sippy cup when we potty trained her. That was the time we introduced juice boxes (capri sun and minute maid both make a juice "box" that is mostly water with some juice splashed in to cut way down on the sugar.)
By dropping sippy cups when she potty trained, we were able to keep track of the ins and outs to anticipate potty breaks.
Don't force the issue, he's still just a little boy.

At that age he's big enough for the transition to cups...He should also be getting his teeth brushed before bed so that is the perfect time to introduce drinking some water from a cup instead of sippy cup. Try not to allow the middle of the night water runs...It will sabotage his night time potty training when he starts that.

try switching him to a cup with a straw. that was the next step i went to after the sippy with my daughter. and if you want to break him of going potty in the middle of the night as you potty train him, cut out the liquids about 15 minutes to 30 minutes before bed. it will be hard at first, but you'll get into a routine.

Switch to a real cup, and stop giving it to him for bed time. He'll cry, but either he gets his way and goes on being a baby for all the rest of time (God know how great it is for kids to still be sucking on those things in grade school), or you suck it up and help him get through it.

That happened to my niece. She ruined her teeth from sleeping with a sippy cup.

Throw them out (we did this for my niece. she had a tantrum the first couple of nights, but it worked after that), or play the "bottle fairy" game, where you tell her the bottle fairy gives a toy to big boys who put all their bottles in a bag under a tree in their yard. Let your tyke fall asleep and throw out the bottles, leaving a nice toy for him to be distracted with. Works wonders.

he is almost 2 years old... he should be learning to use a regular cup here soon if you haven't already started to. i agree with the first answer... you need to just not give it to him... he will eventual quit crying... it will be tough to get through but he will have a tougher time with his teeth later in life if you don't take it from him now...

same as I did to my boy, I threw them away. If they are in the house and he begs you are more apt to give in. If theire gone you both learn to deal with it more quickly versus dragging it out every time you give in. He'll be mad a day or two but he'll get over it.
