My cat just got F.I.P, a rare disese that can't be cured, so he has to get put to sleep :(. Anyways, I was just wondering, are scientists working with vets to find a cure or medicine for F.I.P. so It can be cured?

He's not a senior cat, he's only 7 months old and we've had him for 4 months ONLY! "Aww how sad! I'm soo sorry," Is what everybody at school says to me. It is pretty sad. I cried like 4 times when i heard the news. He's not dead yet though, his name is Henry and he's sooo cute! he's like skin and bones because he can't eat.

scientists are always working on these things, looking to find cures plus vaccines to prevent them in the first place, although i don't believe anything noteworthy has happened in that area of pet medicine yet. at this stage there isn't really even a solid test that can be done for FIP yet (although the symptoms are pretty definitive), so this is one disease that needs much more work before it will be a thing of the past.
i'm so sorry for you & your kitty - what a hard thing to have to do for someone you love so much. even though he's got such a young life, it is nice he got to spend his days with someone like you who cares so much for him.
when i faced losing my pets, i got a garden stone kit from the craft store and made one with their pawprints pressed into it. i love seeing them outside, it helps me to deal with the sadness. also, take plenty of pictures of him in the time you have left - even if he's skin & bones now, when you look back on them later, your henry will look so very beautiful.

No. They are still working on a good test. There is no cure nor do the vets really forsee one.
I have been to Cornell with several kittens with FIP over the years, and nothing new to report. It is an awful disease and always ends the same. Diagnosis is difficult and complicated. Cornell will rarely commit to FIP as a cause of death, since it is really hard to pin down.
There is a vaccine, but it is crap and most vets do not use it.
Sorry about your cat. I have been there many times and I am sure with all the cats I foster, I will be again.

There are 2 forms of FIP the first-rate I appreciate it. Wet and dry. With the rainy they have got diarehha, with the dry i do not consider they have got diarehha. FIP is dangerous information. Sorry to listen to approximately your cat. Yes you have got to make it take fluids. When one in every of my animals are ill I continually get somewhat shringe and drive fluid down them, and rainy meals combined with a few water or Pedialite. Do it slowly as to not drown the cat. Wrap it in a towel, so it are not able to scratch or harm you and it makes it alot simpler. Look up FIP on the internet and be taught all you'll approximately it. It will aid. Some Vet as soon as idea my cat would possibly had it,I kinda middle damaged, however he was once improper thank the Good Lord. So who is aware of it will been misdiagnosed. Yes FIP is rough to diagnose, and will likely be adequate lengthy as you hold to medicate it, provide it drinks, watery can meals few instances an hour. Do this in the course of the night time additionally if feasible. I realize its a affliction, however it would imply existence or loss of life to your animal. Best of success, God Bless. Hope Kitty will get good quickly. Know the way you think.

So very sorry to hear about your loss.
FIP is a fatal disease in cats. When the corona virus occurs in cats, it’s benign. In fact, most pet cats have been exposed to the corona virus, their owners rarely know it because the cats do not get sick. However, in about three per cent of cats, this benign virus mutates into a fatal autoimmune-like disease called FIP. No one knows exactly why this happens.
While a small percentage of exposed cats will develop FIP (mostly young or old cats), once the symptoms of the disease are present, death is inevitable. Depending on the physical condition of the cat, supportive treatment may result in temporary relief of signs, but eventually the disease will progress and treatment will be unsuccessful.
There are two types of FIP. The wet form is characterized by fluid accumulation in various organs of the body, causing swelling of the abdomen and chest. It becomes difficult for the cat to breathe. Additional signs are loss of appetite, chronic fever and jaundice.
The dry form of FIP has many similar signs with the major difference being the lack of fluid accumulation. It also can affect the eyes or central nervous system.
There is a vaccine - But you need to keep in mind that it is new, has its own problems and is not 100 percent effective.
however personally I would not vaccinate for FIP unless my cat has a titered negative result, there is a chance that the vaccine may enhance the cat's susceptibility to the disease, rather than protecting it.
Be aware that FIP strikes the weakest, Think before you decide to vaccinate kittens for leukemia. Have them tested to make sure they are FELV free, the vaccine for leukemia challenges the immune system and could trigger FIP.
Remember that not all cats exposed to the corona virus
will go on to develop FIP.

There are so many diseases to be cured in human medicine as well as animal medicine. I'm sure that there are studies being done about it but I as a vet tech student haven't heard of any new cures. I'm sorry about your cat:( We just had to put a cat to sleep with F.I.P last week. They go down hill so quickly. Again I'm sorry about your cat.

I have not heard of anything. It's a terrible thing to happen and I am sorry that you must release your cat to it.
I don't know where the research money is going - there are so many cancers cats get now, the problem of kidney failure which takes many senior cats, etc.
