There is this this guy that has been coming to our church for a few times and he has a goatee and me and some of the other women were talking about it and how the Bible says men aren't to shave the corners of their beard and we got concerned for him because we don't think he knows any better so then I talked to my husband about it and he said he wasn't going to say anything to the man about it and I got sad so I talked it over with the ladies and they said it wasn't our place to confront a man about something and that it was the elders job. What should I do?

Well, I don't shave. However, the passages in question relate more to the fact they were coming out of EGYPT and the Egyptian had a worshipping aspect to beards and beard wearing. In one instance I know a female pharoah mounted a beard on here chinny chin chin. The commands were more in line with making no cuttings in reference to the dead or worship techniques. You may want to think about that and ask if that is what he is doing. However, some men do not have the ability to grown full beards. Especially if they have certain admixture in the gene line with Mongols or American Indians. He may not be able to grow a full beard. REGARDLESS, I suggest you have an elder WHO UNDERSTANDS these things to talk to him. Perhaps ASK the goatee man what he thinks of the passage. THAT IS IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT SUCH A THING in the first place.
DO YOU PAINT YOUR FACE?
DO YOU WEAR A HAIR COVERING AS COMMANDED?
DO YOU WEAR MENS CLOTHING?

How about furthering our faith by focusing on lovingly holding others accountable to a **relationship**, first with God and then with others, rather than on *rules and regulations*, and your interpretations of them.

That passage was talking about the particular ways that a cult of pagan priests shaved their beards. Rather than being a goatee, it could have been referring to the practice of growing a long beard and then shaving it into a point. Long beards were customary in the region at that time, and this interpretation is much more likely than the goatee scenario.

Do you really want to spit someone out of the church, or damage his trust in your congregation and his relationship with the Body based on interpretations of scripture that may not even be correct? Are we saved by facial hair? Is his immortal soul going to be divided from God over a beard? If it is, then we're all doomed.

This is the biggest problem you're facing in your church these days? Good grief, let the man wear his facial hair however he pleases. If the elders, or anyone else in this church, actually dares to confront this person based on his goatee, then (in my opinion) it's time to ask yourself what you're doing in such a legalistic religion to begin with. It's a big world out there, and there's a lot more going on in it than quibbling about someone's goatee. From a Christian perspective, would Christ rather have people working to help the poor, or fighting over someone's appearance?

Do you really think God cares about the man's goatee? If you talk the elders in to talking to this man over something so silly and mundane as a lousy beard, you may cause this man to quit church. Stop being so judgmental and leave the man alone to live for God the way he sees fit. God could care less about the goatee. He sees the man's heart. He sees your heart also.

Do you go into exile for a week while you are on your period?? The bible says that too.....So ridiculous. For christ sake, let the man have a goatee....so stupid, I almost cant stand to believe that this is a real question. Unbelievable what people will buy into. Pure Garbage.

Quit worrying about his goatee, and start worrying about the sin of gossip.
Make sure you look into a mirror before you go to church next time...because your own appearance as a woman might not be quite scriptural either.

For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

Jam 2:3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:
Jam 2:4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?
Jam 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
Jam 2:6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?
Jam 2:7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

If you are quoting from the old testament or the Hebrew scriptures, then you must realize that these requirements were given under the old law code and we are no longer under that law code.
The new code is to love your God with all your vital force and love your neighbor as yourself.
To remove this splinter from this mans chin should be done in a way that first removes the rafter from your eye's thoughts.

Are you for real?

What church do you go to? If a man's goatee is bothering you so much, how do you get any sleep at night?

(I mean this with as much respect as I can muster)
