Boyfriend and girlfriend have relationship issues. Boyfriend moves out of girlfriend's house. Boyfriend and girlfriend decide to stay together but to give each other breathing space. Boyfriend "disappears" from work and his social life, so girlfriend finds out. Girlfriend meets up with Boyfriend two weeks or so later to find out what is going on with him. Girlfriend is concerned about boyfriend. Boyfriend says he is depressed and has not taken care of himself. Boyfriend tells girlfriend he still cares for her but wants to be alone. Boyfriend then asks girlfriend to wait for him, until he gets "better". Girlfriend has own problems and says that is not fair. Girlfriend calls almost everyday and does not reach boyfriend. Boyfriend finally calls two weeks later. Girlfriend was at work so she could not answer her phone. Girlfriend sees boyfriend left a message so she listens to it. The only thing girlfriend hears is a quiet giggle in the background, not from boyfriend.

If girlfriend ignores the possiblity she is replaced, she is a glutten for punishment, but if girlfriend thinks he is with someone new she is instantly insecure.
Does it have to be one or the other, if so why?
