Hi, I just got an old used Remington model 10 pump shotgun and i've gotten into some problems. First off, it won't fire nor will it eject the shell. I don't hear a firing pin or clicking when the trigger is being pulled either. Does anyone have any breakdown schematics or any advice for me. Not looking to take it to a gun smith just yet as that will cost a few $$$.

Thanks in advance!

As a Gunsmith, Dealer and Remington Stocking Dealer, I can tell you that contacting Remington for this particular shotgun will be a waste of time. The Remington Model 10/10A Shotguns have been discontinued for many years, and Remington no longer works on them, nor to they stock parts either.

You can purcahse a schematic and parts from: Numrich Gun Parts Corporation, West Hurley, New York
online e-mail address: e-gunparts.com

Customer Service Inquiries (845) 679-4867

The problems you are experiencing are not minor by any means and will require the services of a Gunsmith. This is of course your decision to make..

Pick up both. You're going to need them.

The Model 10 has had problems since it was first released almost 100 years ago.....it was so trouble prone that Remington provided those two publications to owners.

Your stated problems are common ones with that gun. You've got a broken extractor for one. It was *very* common. The trigger prob is 99% sear and 1% spring. 99% of the time, you can take your trigger out and try to cock the gun without it and you'll see that the sear simply isn't catching. The steel simply wasn't hardened to prevent wear. You'll need to work on your trigger to fix that. 1%, you'll have a broken main spring.

Parts are out there and pretty cheap. Fact is a LOT of those guns got parted out after they fell below the repair value.

It's actually not a bad shotgun in and of itself and it sure will start conversations, but it's a tinkerer's gun. It's not one I'd suggest to a novice.

This is the remington website, and on the upper right corner, there is an online help center. Perhaps they could help you find your breakdown schematics there.

Otherwise, take it to a reputable gunsmith and they can probably help you get it fixed.

I agree with JD's assessment and would add the following link to go to if you rather looking into and trying to figure out on your own. It is a very complex firearm known for this type of issue and if a part is broken it will be hard to replace if not impossible.

Good luck, hope this information helps a bit.
