Start with a much smaller bird. I didn't like or trust birds at all but my boyfriend wanted one. I got him some doves since they seem less likely to bite and you can keep them outdoors. I would even go in the aviary to take care of them and was never attacked.
In 2000 I got him a blue crown conure for Valentine's day and the bird lives in my house. We clip his wings so he can't fly at me to attack. If I want him to do something and he opens his beak I back off and he can't bite me. I have only been bitten a couple of times but he bites my boyfriend much more often and hard enough to draw blood for no reason at all. He will be on his shoulder and suddenly bite his lip or ear and take out a chunk of meat.
I am glad he didn't get a parrot they could take a finger.

It doesn't matter what your grandpa says and it doesn't matter what you say or want. Your father has said, "NO." What part of "no" don't you understand?

Your father is the responsible and legal homeowner and pays the bills - not you. You are a minor, and barely literate at that. When you are an adult and have your own place and can pay your own bills, THEN you can get a parrot. Until then don't whine or pester your father. If the parrot becomes ill, are YOU going to pay the vet bill? Are you going to pay for the annual checkup, or the food? What about the price of the cage or toys?

There is nothing for you to "do." You are not getting a parrot. Case closed.

A parrot is going to live a long time and is a major responsibility. You sound like a young person, and you're likely going to go to college and live in a dorm or an apartment, neither of which are good options for parrots.

Do a lot of research into birds like cockatiels or green cheek conures. If you do plenty of research and show you are mature and responsible, perhaps you're dad will change his mind.

Talk to your dad about getting one keeping it in your room and when your g-pa comes over put a towel over its cage and shut the door to your room! I think its easily solved that way!

This is your fathers house? If so you do as he said, no parrot. Once you own your own house you can put whatever animal in it you like.
